Perfect!
Dewalt, there's nothing else to say. I've been using Dewalt for 20 plus years doing electrical work and it's reliable and a tough tool.

You need one of these!
This thing is a beast! I have DeWalt tools almost exclusively and really like their quality and performance. I could not believe how easy it was to drill into poured concrete with this drill. It was just amazing. I purchased a refurbished unit but it came complete and looked practically brand new. Very pleased with my purchase.

Finally Went 20volt
DeWalt drills have been mainstay in my shop for many years. Thought I'd died and went to Heaven when the 14.4volt came out. Then watched a crew erect my shop using only 18 volt hammerdrills to drive 3" Torx screws into the yellow pine and had to have one. Disappointed when they went with the new 20 volt battery style but could not argue with new brushless design. Not only is the new addition stronger but it's also shorter, allowing this one to get into spaces where previous models didn't fit. The three-stage work light, located low on the grip above the battery, is a real boon compared to the under-chuck, shadowy old one. Plus it stays on without the trigger being depressed! The chuck is very grippy and it is easier than ever to achieve a secure clamp on drill bits and accessories so they don't spin and gaul. Note to the wise: If you are in the habit of holding the tightening collar to speed-run the chuck down, be very careful. A light touch prevents embarrassment, ha ha. If you've never owned a battery powered hammerdrill, this will easily prove to be a major step up (especially with Torx-head fastners) in difficult driving situations. The 5.0 Ah batteries will last quite a long time but having a set of 2.0 Ah batteries reduces wrist and arm strain for extended overhead use. Truly remarkable tool!Edit: Unfortunately after the above review I tackled another project which involved driving screws into predrilled holes. On the lowest clutched setting, the torque is still way too high causing over driving into soft wood. Whereas my older, 18v drill could easily be scaled back to handle various resistance materials, this one is impossible to control. Very disappointed. Reminds me of the old days of jerking the drill back out of the screw with corded tools that lacked a clutch to keep from over-driving & ruining the project. Also on the #1 setting the drill slows WAY DOWN so severely restricts driving speed. Poor engineering solution to the problem. Not happy...Decreasing rating to four stars due to this handicap.

Received Defective - Reverse switch loose, Torque setting 1 mangled the screw.
I ordered a "Renewed" version of the DCD996 drill. My first attempt to use the "Renewed" drill on torque setting 1 mangled the head of the shower knob screw I was attempting to put in due to too much force. That should not happen. I purchased the new drill because the NiCad batteries of my old much-loved DeWalt drill died. I used my old drill mostly to drive screws. The DCD996 reverse switch was abnormally loose and too easy to accidentally push. I went to the local Home Depot to compare the switch's feel on the DCD996 drills in the store. All the drills I tried had a normally functioning feel to the reverse switch. I had the DCD996 for about a week before I had an opportunity to try it, but now I am trying to return it due to the defects encountered. I called them, but they were closed for the day.
