I'd say, if you are patient and have a second bathroom to use so you won't be pressured, you can do this. The replacement product is universal, and made from materials which are easy to work with and don't rust. If anything, I'd look at the existing components to make sure they are not corroded or rusted, which makes it very difficult to remove the old components from the tank. Particularly the bolts which hold the tank to the base. Check those. If they are clean on the bottom of the tank under the base, and you can easily turn them with a wrench while holding the screws with a screwdriver in the tank, you should be good to go.

I am not a plumber but have done toilet repair. The Fluidmaster web site will fully explain their different models. Size considerations for the correct kit are the flapper at 2”, 3” or even 4”. Most all their models adjust in height from 9” to as tall as 15”. Much depends on the age and model of your toilet, along with your desired gallons per flush and water levels.
