Q: How far does the red dot show

It doesn't show distance, just a dot in centre of scope to aquire targets. Scope has no magnification. Just a simple red dot

A sight protector on a different mount of the same height :)

Q: Is it suitable for 12ga shotgun?..

Not entirely sure as I believe its rated to either 7.62 or 5.56, not sure how it would handle the recoil and still hold zero
