Q: will these work for the levitating pencil demo?

If you are referring to where you place them with like poles around a pencil so the magnets look to levitate- definitely. They break easily but are super strong!!

Q: Are these magnets axial or radially magnetized ?

These are axial magnets. And very handy for numerous tasks. One of the cooler things we did was to use them in my kid's 5th grade science project. We put 6 of these magnets on a vertical dowel, south facing south, north facing north, so there was a space maintained between each of the magnets. The space between magnets got smaller as the magnets got closer to the bottom....so the weight of the upper magnets was applied to the lower magnets...without actually touching them. It was a hit at the fair.
