A book to reread again and again
To kick start Ramadan in as spiritually elevated place as possible, I think it’s necessary to crack this book out and give it another read. Yasmin’s words are of great solace, particularly when in the deepest of despair. The book starts with many (many!) reviews and I think it really sets the tone for what to expect from the book and gives you a realistic idea of what you may get out of reading it.Just reading the opening chapter I’m so glad that I’ve chosen to restart this book as it starts by tackling the problems with attachment and those who become easily attached. Yasmin says “Through my attachments, I was dependent on my relationships to fulfill my needs. I allowed those relationships to define my happiness or my sadness, my fulfillment or my emptiness, my security, and even my self-worth. And so, like the vase placed where it will inevitably fall, through those dependencies I set myself up for disappointment. I set myself up to be broken. And that’s exactly what I found: one disappointment, one break after another.” I just think that that is such an accurate depiction of attachment and hits home for me during a time of real strife, the situations and heartbreak that seems ever-present in my emotional attachments to others. It then goes on to say “There is only one relationship that should define our self-worth and only one source from which to seek our ultimate happiness, fulfillment, and security. That place is God.” Which is I think, what everybody should be striving for and what I myself have been trying to learn for some time.“Seek the help of people—but realize that it is not the people (or even your own self) that can save you. Only Allah can do these things. The people are only tools, a means used by God. But they are not the source of help, aid, or salvation of any kind. Only God is.” Such a simple idea that Islam teaches us over and over, but a message that hits home so clearly when written so simply.”Reading this book again brought back all of the feelings of closeness to my faith that may have been lacking as of late and I found it incredibly heartwarming and motivating. I would recommend this to everybody; whether you’re struggling with your faith, with the dunya, whether you want to just reconnect, whether you’re just curious about Islam, this book brings light to the heat in an otherwise dark world.

If you dont have it already, you dont know what you are missing!!
If you are going through hardship, this book is for you. If you are confused, this book is for your, if you have unhealthy attachments to worldly possessions/people, this book is for you..I started reading this yesterday and i am almost finishing it!!I love how it is a self help book using the quraan and sunna!! Rather than using some scientific methods when instead we have a God that has given us a religion that is so wholesome in giving guidance on every matter in this life!Yasmin is just absolutely amazing!!

Heartbreaks solved
If you've ever been through a heartbreak and are looking for a read that soothes your pains or gives you answers to why things happen the way they did, then this is the book for you. Easy to read, full of examples and analogies that help make sense of things, put things into clearer logical perspectives. The only thing I wished Yasmin put into consideration is the non-Muslim readers who don't know what 'Dunya' means, for instance. Many other Arabic words and terms are used in the book and they are used by Muslims only. This book is addressing a global issue and presenting an important solution that had to be written in a language everyone understands. Some words in the book that, unfortunately, need only a Muslim mindset.

Unable to Put It Down
I literally had to force myself to put the book down to go to sleep. Have been on my own journey of "Finding My Purpose" and have always had a good bond with Our Creator but this book opened my heart, eyes and ears to a different level. Will forever be grateful to Allah swt for giving me the awakening and grateful to Yasmin Mogahed for sharing her awakening with us. May Allah swt Reward her for all her efforts. Ameen

Good book, but...
It was a good read, I feel like my teenage self would have really benefited from this being older and having a lot of this knowledge already made it a little boring for me, the poems at the back were lovely touch.

Thought provoking
I really enjoyed reading this and using this book to deeply reflect on myself and my purpose in life.At times it felt repetitive, but I understood later in the book why because they were the keys points we are meant to be able to recall.I will definitely read this again in a few months.
