Q: Is the base a solid piece? What makes it heavy?

The base is a solid piece, but as is, it is difficult to attach a hair dryer. It appears to be made for older hair dryers that are straight and without "curves" on the body. My husband had to modify the "clamp" that held the hair dryer. It will still slip occasionally, but it does get the job done. I bought this because I had surgery on my hand and could not hold a hair dryer. I probably won't use it after my hand heals.

Q: I have a long straight blow dryer, would it hold it ?

I also have a long straight hair dryer. As is, It doesn't hold very well. However, my husband modified it so it would hold my hair dryer. He added long pieces of sticky backed hook and loop tape. That helped quite a lot. After several weeks of use, it would work itself loose and he'd have to modify it again. Since I was only using it because of hand surgery, I no longer need it.
