Saved My Wife a Disappointment
It’s a bit heavy and bulky, but it gets the job done. It has two outlets and a digital display showing how many watts you're using. Trust me, this is extremely important—here’s why: My wife bought some Japanese appliances and was told by the store staff that they'd only work with 100V (the Japanese standard voltage). I thought it would be a great idea to buy a small travel converter to solve the issue. It did not. When we got home, the small converter overheated and shut down after 5-7 seconds. The voltage was correct, but the wattage wasn’t. (I’m not an electrician, so I didn’t check the wattage when buying the small converter.) We thought we’d bought a brick, but there was still hope. After a bit of research, I found this converter. So go ahead, buy your Japanese appliances with confidence, because this will keep you safe. Just make sure to check your appliance’s wattage—it should be LESS than what this converter can handle. If your appliance needs more power, you’ll need to buy a higher-capacity converter.

Vintage Japanese HiFi (unlocked)
Purchased this to use with my vintage Japan-only Yamaha turntable (YP-511). Works great. It hasn’t indicated to me the wattage usage it just shows 0 on the display but this is likely due to the turntables very low wattage (something like 3w if I recall). What matters most to me is that the current coming through this is correct. I’ve tested with a meter and it is accurate so I’m a happy camper. This model might seem like overkill for 3w but I do intend to purchase a set of Japan-only speakers and amplifiers that I would also plug-in. Also of note, I received an email from this company inquiring whether or not I had any questions or concerns about the product so I feel like there’s a certain level of assurance that the company would stand behind their product. So overall I am content and felt like this was a great purchase.

amazing product
this appliance is way better than i imagined. it gives you a live readout of the power draw in watts and we have gone up to 2000w+ on multiple appliances and it kept working great. we use this to power our japanese oven and induction range on USA power. we also plugged in our japanese hot water heater that we've been using on 120V for years and it performs so much better on the appropriate 100V! surprise benefit. the hot water heater used to surge when the heating cycle completed and would flip the breaker if there was a lot of draw on that circuit at that time. Using this stepdown converter we havent had ANY issues with any of our japanese appliances.

Pricey but works
Purchased a Dyson hair dryer (saved $300 usd) in Japan. I assumed a simple outlet converter would do the trick when I brought it back home. Upon further research, I needed something stronger versus the typical international outlet. Electronic devices that uses more energy (hair dryers, kitchen equipments, etc) entails for a stronger converter. To be honest, I didn't think it was going to be this big and heavy! If I knew, would've just bought the Dyson in the US. I'm afraid to keep the convertor in the bathroom (constant moisture, steam, water) in case of damage. But! it gets the job done. Haven't experienced any issues or power break. I guess I have to go back to Japan and buy more hair or makeup electronics to get the most of my converter in one space! lol

Worth the money!
This review is after two years of daily use. I’ve been using this product everyday with my Japanese made hair dryer. It has been working pretty sturdily and has never caused any issues so far. Body design is sleek and clean: easy to wipe clean. No complaints!

I bought this a few weeks ago to power a Japanese HD VCR which only accepts 100V. I checked the output with a multimeter and it shows 99.7V, and the VCR is working happily so far. I can't see what's inside but it's quite heavy, the exterior design is nice, and I don't have any problem with the cable staying in the power outlets as the outlet is very tight and takes a bit of force to get the cable into. If it continues working I'll be very happy with it.

We recently went to Japan and the wife bought some electronic beauty devices that only operates at 100V. This step down converter does the job beautifully. The device was well made and appears reliable that we don't have to worry it will damage the electronics plugged into it. It is quite heavy and despite its slimmer profile than other converters, it still takes up some desk space. Really happy with the device.

We bought a high-end rice cooker in Japan, but were dismayed when we got it home and it kept erroring. We read that some newer electronics are sensitive to voltage ranges so bought this unit and we are so glad we did! After running the rice cooker through it, we have had zero problems and perfect rice every time. The readout even shows power consumption so you can see how much your appliance is drawing. Highly recommended, saved our rice cooker investment! Note the unit is VERY heavy and bulky (about the size of a toaster) so this is not for travel!
