Critical Care Examination Review Revised Review: Great Book - I take the actual CCRN exam to renew my license. This book is very detail and the rationals are great. Very similar, very close to the old CCRN exam I took 10 years ago. The latest exam, they make it so much easier. It is the basic ICU stuff. The new version of CCRN exam was poorly written. It seems like lots of those people wrote the question have none or very limited ICU experiences. They may not even understand the questions and answers they written. Some questions have all the answers wrong but I had to pick one. frustrating! I brought the Fifth edition CCN Certification book writen by Ahrens, Prentice & Kleinpell. they provided answers with no rationals at all. They questions were poorly written. I found lots of WRONG answers, horrible questions. some of the hemodynamic numbers does not happen in real life. The is actually a few of the better book in the market. Review: Very Happy With Purchase/Excellent Book - The first copy of the book I lost during a move. I was so glad to find this one. Very happy with my purchase. I’m an ICU Nurse & the book is full of information on every body system. It also has a set of questions @ the end of each chapter as a review to help with learning. Excellent book. Very happy. I use it as a reference book & study the systems of the body I don’t feel I know as I should

Good, but not Great
The rationale and questions are great in this book; however, some of the information is dated already. It was published in 2015, so they still use vasopression for code situations which has been changed in the newest ACLS guidelines. Some of the medication questions in general seemed dated, but again it was a good overall resource.

All you need
This book is really all you need. I bought the Pass CCRN! book and honestly there was just too much garbage in there you don't need. If you're taking the CCRN then you should already know your stuff. This book simply presents questions in a format very similar to what you will see on the test and then gives you rationales for every answer both right and wrong. Its not a foot thick and its very comprehensive. Again, its all you need.

Pass the CCRN exam with confidence!
I gave the book as a gift because, by reviewing the questions and answers until I could answer correctly >/= 85% of the time, I was able to pass the CCRN exam and improve my practice!

Good Luck!
I also reviewed the 6 videos/CDs by LVG then answered the questions in this book written by LVG, did practice tests on the computer and I read the core ICU text book. I passed my CCRN exam on the first try with a score of 94 correct answers out of 100 scored questions. I gave myself 3 solid months of study and practice. Please take the time to do all the test in this book and especially pay attention to the questions you miss and try to understand why you miss them (read the correct answers). Good Luck!!

SoSo. Some information outdated.
This book is a compilation of questions and answers. The answers are at the end of each chapter and provide some additional information to support each answer. This is not a book with chapters that provide basic A&P then disease processes and treatments. It is simply Q&A. And some of the information is outdated. Its a good book to read to refresh established knowledge and prepare for the types of questions CCRN offers. It can also help you identify areas you need to spend more time reviewing in better detail. But then you are better off reading Critical Care Review for CCRN 6th Edition that provides more detailed information, advice re CCRN test questions, and plenty of Q&A at the end of each section.
