The Bipolar Disorder Survival Guide: What You and Your Family Need to Know: 9781462534982: Medicine & Health Science Books @ desertcart.com Review: Very helpful, like Bipolar 101. - Very thorough treatment of bipolar disorder. No criticism at all. The one thing that I would warn people about is the size of the book. It's too large to read in bed, it's like a textbook that demands your whole attention. The author writes with just the right tone, very knowledgeable but matter of fact and positive. I am not the one with bipolar but I am benefiting from this book. Review: Good information for starters! - Accurate book but, the only way you are going to learn about mental health is through living it. Through trial and error. No book Is going to give you the answers. You’ve just got to stick with treatment. find stability in your medications and coping skills. And if therapy works for you then all the more power to you. Use it. If you’re just now getting diagnosed maybe this book would be nice to flip through to learn more but that’s all it’s good for.

Excellent introduction to Bipolar Disorder, for the mentally ill and their friends and family
I have a dear friend recently diagnosed with Bipolar, and bought this book to learn about the illness. It is a great, broad introduction to the subject. There is quite a bit of information about how someone with the illness can learn to understand their "triggers" and recognize when their mood is becoming unstable, and respond before reaching the full-blown crisis stage. The treatment of therapy is disappointing, though. The author gives very simplistic explanations of different techniques and seems to imply that someone can just apply the techniques to themself. And there seems to be a heavy emphasis on medication, but nothing about how nutrition can impact mental illness. To be fair, no single book can cover all the aspects of dealing with this complicated illness, and this is a very good place to start. I purchased a copy for my friend, and he liked it and learned a lot as well.

Highly Recommend
I wish they issued a copy of this to everyone when they get diagnosed, it would save so much time and trouble. This book is thorough and easy to read while including important things I've not found outside medical journals. Includes useful medication information beyond the scope of average doctor appointments, what it looks like in women and children, sample charts and contracts to use, and real life examples that help you navigate and understand similar situations written with a depth of personal understanding and compassion that is truly meaningful to anyone suffering from this illness. This book answers questions you needed the answers to but didn't even know to ask. It's an absorbing read if you want to understand more about the why's and how's of every aspect of treatment and a useful resource if you want to look up things as needed. I recommend it to anyone trying to gain more control over their own illness or explain it to others and anyone else affected by bipolar, including practitioners. It's the kind of book you're going to want to give a copy of to your doctor, or bring along so you can point to a page and say "This!".

In the wide range of clinical cases exposed i could recognise events, states of minds and personality aspects which I live through the course of my 25 year long disease. In addition to that the book is extremely clear and useful in very specific and many ways. Incredibly well organised in 5 sections it provides a bulletproof skill set on how living a most possibly normal day to day life despite the disease and most importantly many pinpointed tips on how to minimize the conditions and the triggers of each cycle. I have gone through it with my psychiatrist and by the end of that we adjusted my therapy and in a few weeks found out evident benefits. I really commit to encourage everyone who his directly or indirectly connected with the disease to read this book. It’s real value added.
