Ruler by Middle Atlantic Products

I've been looking for a replacement u-based tape measure since leaving my last employer 10 year ago, but had trouble remembering the brand or name. I finally stumbled on this "Rack Ruler". It seems pretty standard as far as tape measures go. The plastic housing is adequate and the belt clip works just as well as any other tape measure I have used. It slides out and self retracts easily. An interesting bonus is on the back of the extended tape: there are fraction to decimal conversions, ohm's law, etc. While not necessarily relevant to someone who is using the tape measure for its u-based abilities, it is still an added bonus. The one minor issue is that the u measurement labels are in orange and can be difficult to read from a distance. I wish the u-based labels would stand out better from the bold black inch labels.

I do DCIM work for a living, and often do rack audits for customers. This saves me a ridiculous amount of time doing rack audits on unmarked racks. Beats counting holes. Having the conversions for BTU/Ton and power formulas is also handy for me.The spring in it however, is weak, and it doesn't retract very smoothly. Still worth it though.

This is a must have ruler for telecom work. I measure equipment racks for routers and switches for drawings. This is a lifesaver when you don't want to count RUs. I love this tool and you need it in your bag for installs as well as site surveys!

These are very expensive but very handy to have.

Well sometimes my eyes play tricks on me when "guestimating" a 1-RU(rack unit) space or a 2-RU space. The measuring tape from Middle Atlantic measuring tape makes a accurate assessment of space in a rack. Plus on the other side of the tape are measuring formulas one can find helpful! A definite 5-star rating for this product!
