Soothes the Digestive Tract
Exceptional Quality and value. Originally, I purchased The Starwest Botanicals Organic Slippery Elm Bark Powder, (Ulmus rubra), to use as a thickener for food I prepare. It definitely serves very well as a thickener. However, I also discovered that Slippery Elm Bark Powder is also very soothing to the lining of the digestive tract. During a google search, I learned that Slippery Elm Bark Powder contains antioxidants that specifically sooth the stomach and reduces inflammation which is at the heart of many health issues. Slippery Elm Powder also supports better digestion and benefits colon evacuation. As sometimes happens, I discontinued using the slippery elm bark on a regular basis for a while. Recently, I noticed that my stomach distress was almost non-stop from one meal to the next. Drinking Aloe Juice didn't seem to give me much relief. Then the light bulb went on and I started mixing Slippery Elm Bark Powder in my foods once again earlier this week. To my surprise and delight, the stomach distress dropped dramatically! I am now a Believer and plan to use Slippery Elm Powder every day to support my finicky stomach. For individuals who take medication, it's best to consume the Slippery Elm Powder several hours after taking medication so that you get the maximum benefit of your medication as well as the health benefits of the Slippery Elm Powder. Starwest Botanicals Organic Slippery Elm Bark Powder is packaged in a generous 1 lb. size. which is an excellent value. The Slippery Elm Powder has a pleasant smell and is nearly tasteless when eaten alone. It doesn't alter the flavor of any food in which it is mixed. In my opinion, Starwest Botanicals has the best quality Organic Slippery Elm Bark Powder available at a fair price. When speaking with one of Starwest Botanicals representatives, I was informed that none of their organic products are irradiated if that's as important to you as it is to me.

Great price for such a large bag
I use slippery elm whenever I begin showing symptoms of a cold. Most people use that OTC med Muc…x, but I prefer something natural. A teaspoon of this in a cup of tea and I am well on my way to getting rid of all that clogged up mucus. Remember to drink a lot of non-caffeine beverages to stay hydrated or it won’t work the way you need it to. Your body needs to be hydrated to be able to thin secretions and caffeine is dehydrating. This is a great product from an excellent company. It is easy to use, you don’t notice it because there is no flavor, it will alleviate your symptoms and you will be feeling better much more quickly! It works well! Price is good as compared to some of the competitors out there.

Awesome!
Read about this on the Eat Beautiful blog, what a blessing! This is a really outstanding product. I came down with bronchitis on a Thursday. That usually means I'm going to get a sinus infection and can expect to be really sick for 2 weeks. By Sunday I had a fever of 102. I was standing eagerly by the door waiting for this to be delivered and praying the reviews were not over hyped. The second it arrived I started taking 1 TBS 3 times a day. It is Tuesday and I've turned the corner. I'm up making breakfast for my kids! It's literally a miracle. I still have a lot of drainage but it's coming out easily. When I blow my nose it's so satisfying! I usually get this tight burning feeling in my sinuses which turns me into a mouth breather that in turn means I can't sleep. This calms that right down and just makes it all drain. I could almost cry. I've had three sinus surgeries. I've had an endoscopy for stomach aches. The doctor came back saying everything looked fine. Guess I should have gone to a vet because we seem to have better remedies for our animals then our people in this country. Thank you for this product and I only wish I'd know about it 10 years ago. Slippery Elm, bone broth and diatomaceous earth are now a regular part of my routine. I did try to take it simply mixed in water and wasn't able to get it down. 1 TBS in 8 oz makes for a very very thick drink. The flavor is mild, but I was already nauseous and I just couldn't get myself to drink something that thick. I ended up mixing 1 TBS in 2 cups raw milk with a little raw honey and a pinch of cinnamon. I started blending the milk slowly in the vitamix and dropped the slippery elm in as it was mixing. It incorporated well, no lumps. I intended to heat it but was honestly too weak for that step and it turned out I didn't need to.

Review update
Updated review from 3 to 4 stars. Okay, so I want to be fair in my review here, while this is not as pure as the stuff I got locally, I tried making this again today because I'm out of the good stuff. I mixed about 2 heaping teaspoons in a mug and poured about 4 oz. boiling water over, it gelled!!! I added a few more ounces to thin a little. This gave me hope that this slippery elm powder will work, but just needed a LOT more powder than the really pure stuff (about 3x more). The texture is still not as "slippery" and is also a bit more woody tasting and grainy texture, but honestly, its not terrible if you doctor it up with cinnamon and a little cacao butter or coconut oil, my husband prefers to consume any slippery elm with a little maple syrup for taste (he's more picky than I am about food). Anyway, all that said, I do prefer the stuff i got locally, but I don't want to make it sound like this won't work at all. Original review: "This is not like the slippery elm I got from my local health food store. The product I was used to is a very fine powder, slightly sweet smell like maple syrup and quickly forms a thick gel when I pour boiling water over it. Using the exact same technique and amount this morning side-by- side there is no comparison. I think this is slippery elm, but not good quality. It is very thin and grainy/gritty and the taste is more like sawdust tea. I think its probably just more of the outside bark and not the pure inner bark. After watching a video on how its harvested I guess I see why this is so much less expensive than the stuff I bought before. I doubt this will hurt anyone, but I don't know that its very beneficial."

I used before prescription for stomach acid, this one save my money, better then pills. Most important, you are not using cold water to mix because is going to lumpy and not easy to mix or swallow. Basically, I can go on trip without this. By accident, went one week without and ruined my holiday.

This is the BEST slippery elm I have ever bought by far and I have been incorporating it in my diet for over 20 years. I use it in gluten free recipes and as a milky drink mixed in Rice Dream at night. It's the mixing that is the fantastic thing. It stirs into the warm Rice Dream without lumping. Excellent value & excellent product.

As per the search engine's description, "Slippery Elm is used as a natural remedy to help protect the esophagus and stomach from excess acid". This was recommended to me by a well-educated naturopath and purchased in this format, saved me a significant amount of money. It works very well!
