Great upgrade from Timex Ironman
I bought this watch to replace a Timex Ironman that died after a few years of service. I liked the Timex because of its low price, huge display, and very easy to use all of the watch functions. I've had the Casio GW7900B-1 watch for about a month now and I don't miss my old Timex one bit. There are several comments about the inverse display being hard to read, but I find it easy to read in any lighting conditions. I would say that you have to use the backlight a little more than you would on a traditional display (for example a little earlier at dusk), but that's just a new habit to get used to. With the backlight on you can read it fine under low light conditions. The backlight actually seems brighter than what I had on my Timex. Display of numbers is not as big as on the Timex (nothing out there really is), but this watch shows more information and the display is big enough that I don't have any problems reading it. It is very easy and intuitive to use all of the features on the watch. Maybe not quite as simple as the Timex, but pretty darn close, and you have more features like moon and tide info on this one to learn how to use. Read the user's manual one time and you'll understand how to use everything. Obviously the price of this watch is more than the Timex, but this watch is built like a tank and I think it will last forever. I also think it is more attractive than the Timex. I wear it to work (office job) and people have told me "nice looking watch." It is a large watch, but looks good and is comfortable to wear. The watch battery power indicator has been on full ever since I received it. I work in an office all day under fluorescent lights and am outside an hour or two in the evenings, plus outside more on weekends. That seems to be enough to keep it fully charged without doing anything special. Time sync with atomic clock signal has worked perfectly every night and even automatically adjusted for daylight savings time. I leave the watch sitting on my dresser when I go to bed and it syncs without any special effort required. I live in Colorado, so I am close to the source of the atomic clock signal in Ft. Collins. As others have mentioned, the screws on the front face are there just for looks. You can move them around with your fingers, but it doesn't seem like they are going to fall out or anything. Overall, this is a great watch and I am looking forward to having it for many years.

Great Casio Watch
In all this watch did not disappoint in any way. There are a few complexities with it but those are to be expected of a watch in this price range. I was looking for a watch to replace the G-Shock I lost a long time ago when I was 15. I had it for literally 6 years when it was ripped off my wrist while I was sailing. The strap was cut through and the watch dropped into the ocean. It is probably still sitting there telling the time as we speak... PROS -A great sturdy watch, rubber coated exterior bug rugged buttons thick straps metal clasp. -A great look, I could wear this with a polo and jeans or a nice suit if I really wanted to.It is a clean crisp rugged looking watch. -it is waterproof, shock resistant, and everything else you could possibly want. -IT IS SOLAR POWERED! Yes that is right solar powered. Say good bye to having a dead watch. That was the one thing I disliked about my original Casio so much; when it went dead it took me a week to get the battery replaced. No more! -The solar panels are well hidden, unless you are looking for them you will NOT find them. They are hidden into the design of the watch quite well. -I have had this thing for a few months now and can say with confidence it has never dipped below the HIGH charge mark. I don't even have to change the way I normally wear a watch either. It just seems to glean every bit of spare solar energy it can get and uses it all to charge the battery. -The manual is well written and flows easily from one function to another CONS -It is not bulletproof...but is likely bullet resistant knowing its construction. -The MANUAL...Dear sweet lord the manual is intense. It is the size of a small travelers bible that you can put easily in your pocket. And it is just about as thick as one if not thicker. This thing has more functionality than any other watch I have ever owned...while that isn't saying much if you plan on using ANY advanced functionality of this device you need to read the manual. -The display can be a bit challenging to read in the dark if you do not light the face up. Good news I found if you quickly twist your wrist like you want to read the time, when it is dark the face auto lights up for you. It does not however do this when it is bright enough to read the face during the day. it is almost like it has a light sensor in it and will only auto light up when there isn't enough light to read it alone. WRAP-UP As far as the line of Casio watches goes this one was a good pick for me. I have a big arm and well a HUGE wrist; this watch fit perfectly and looks great. It is rugged enough for me not to have to worry about taking it hiking, biking, or accidentally hitting it against something while walking or running. They just don't make watches like this anymore...or I thought they didn't.

I purchased this watch last summer and after more than 6 months of using it, I must say that this is an exceptional watch. What attracted me to this watch was that it is solar powered and it automatically updates the time with the atomic clock. With these two convenient features, you will never have to replace the battery or manually set the time ever again! Overall, I'm extremely impressed with this watch. It's not too heavy, is very comfortable to wear, easy to use and maintains a tactical yet stylish look suitable for everyday wear. As with newer G-Shock watches, this model features the attached "wing" apertures that allows for a more stable and comfortable fit on your wrist which is really handy when wearing larger watches. The moon and tide function is a neat feature but I don't use enough of either to comment on them. This watch also has the typical G-Shock watch functions such as stopwatch, multiple alarms, 48 city world time, and timer. Just a quick note on the atomic timekeeping: This watch updates the time every night at midnight and if unsuccessful, it will retry 5 more times per night; once an hour between midnight and 5am. If the watch remains unsuccessful, you may attempt to connect to the atomic signal manually at any time or set the time manually like a traditional watch. For North America, the atomic clock is located in Colorado, United States and this signal will also cover Canada. Simply set your time zone and you will never have to worry about setting the time ever again. When updating the time, it's best to sync your watch late in the evening when there are fewer radio signals and electronic interferences in the air. For best results, the manual suggests that you place the watch near a window with the watch pointed diagonally to the sky. When the watch is updating time, the screen will display the signal strength: L1 (low), L2 (medium) or L3 (high). I've noticed that updating the time can take anywhere between 4 to 10 minutes, even on L3. On average, my watch completes updating the time within 4-6 minutes of synchronization. (NOTE: If you find it difficult for your watch to sync the time every night and you have another wrist watch that also updates the time via the atomic clock, I find it very effective to place them side by side at night as this will bond the watches for a stronger signal reception. I've had my Casio atomic watches go months without updating the time but every time I place them next to each other at night, they synchronize on the first attempt. This never fails!) On a downside, the numbers in the LCD display does not look as white as it does in the stock photo. The numbers actually appears darker than what you see in the photo. This particular model is using "module 3200" which means it has light numbers on a black background and this makes the display harder to see in low light situations. Also, the EL backlight only illuminates the numbers and not the entire display. Module 3200 is ideal for viewing outdoors during the day and not at night. If you get this watch, I suggest you get the module 3193 (dark numbers on light background) as it displays the numbers more clearly in both day and night-time situations. Charging the battery is also extremely easy to do. Simply wear the watch in the sunlight or place it facing a bright source of light such as a desk lamp or window with ample lighting and the watch will recharge the battery. A full charge lasts about 9 months. To preserve battery life, this watch also has a power save feature where the watch automatically turns off the display if the watch is not used for an extended period of time. Overall, this is an impressive watch and if you're only in the market for 1 digital watch for everyday wear, this could be it. Having a solar powered battery and the watch update the time automatically means that you will never have to worry about it ever again. Pair this up with G-Shock's tough build quality and you have a watch for life.
