Is there something inside the pipe to prevent draught? Will it allow draught into the room?

As others have said, there is an internal baffle to reduce draughts, but my vents are located behind furniture and this greatly reduces draughts. I also installed fine mesh gauze on the outside to stop bugs crawling up the vent, this also reduces draughts. I installed mine to reduce condensation behind furniture which comes with a completely draught free house after installing good quality double glazing

Could this be used to vent a 5" portable air conditioner exhaust?

Hi, I don't think so. It is designed to mount in the ceiling and therefore draws air upwards. There is a a baffle plate which prevents backdraught. Therefore the pipe connection would be on the wrong side of the baffle plate.

Is this suitable for log burner please

You will need to consult with a heating engineer to check the amount of ventilation your log burner requires it is very very important you check this with a competent heating engineer

is there an ideal place to install this? i.e. low down or high up the wall?

ideally install near the appliance that it serves making sure that the airflow is not obstructed by an internal door.place to suit yourself in that it is not seen.height does not matter but i placed mine at 6 feet height under the staircase .too near the ground may leave a path for insects or plant or leaf blockage.

Excellent ventilation kits

The ventilator is very easy to install after you have drilled the 5" hole in your cavity wall. You just need the right equipment to drill the hole, I bought the Marcrist drill and dust extraction core drill kit to do this. Everything is easier if you have the right equipment to do the job.Have bought extra Manthorpe ventilator kits to install in other bedrooms in my house. After installing high end double glazing in my house condensation has settled behind furniture i.e. the house is draught proof so have had to install the ventilator kits to allow the house to breathe. Hope this cures the mould problem I encountered.Only one little grouse is that the cowls supplied with the ventilation kits are huge and are a bit of an eyesore to be frank.

Pointless waste of time and money

Product delivered quickly.As soon as I unpacked it I knew it was a total waste of money. I installed it anyway and was not surprised to discover it made less than no difference to the draught entering via the extraction vent. Waste of time and money
