If your starting to play the flute this one is great
If your new to the flute get this one, is so easy to produce a sound, mind you I have been working on getting a sound for two weeks before this with an Irish flute. So that may of helped, but this flute is great, its so easy to use. Also if you can play the tin whistle the notation is the same and transferring to this instrument is very easy. People said it is light weight and it is compared to my Irish flute but not so light as i thought. Mine is black and it sounds brilliant. Ok its not £4k flute but who cares i an not going to perform at the proms. So if this your first get this. Its so easy to play and pick up, the other flute is harder to play but then i am just starting out. Great flute - I will come back later to see how it holds up with time.

Amazing flute. Plays in tune and with a good tone.
This flute is amazing. I am very impressed with it. It plays beautifully and in tune. I don't know yet how it’s going be after playing for a while but it seems strong and solid and well built. I was dubious about a plastic flute being any good but this one is great and worth the money. I was impressed that it could play as a baroque flute by leaving off the lower joint.

Fine for beginner
Bought this for beginer daughter who wanted a black flute rather than a silver one. For a beginner it's fine, and has the advantage that's it's very light, which makes it easier to hold - for a child a metal flute with a normal mouthpiece is heavier than it looks.

Good points and bad!
I bought my Nuvo last December, having wanted to learn the flute since secondary school. I thought this would be a good "first" flute, since I wasn't sure that I would keep it up. 6 months later and I am now having to upgrade to a 2nd hand Trevor James 10x as the Nuvo has become too frustrating to continue learning on. To give a bit of background, I'm an adult learner, having never touched a flute before and self taught. I'm currently working my way through the 2nd Trevor Wye beginner book, well into the 3rd octave, which is where I seem to be stuck. I know that most of my struggles are because of a serious lack of experience but trying to get any notes in the 3rd octave past E is just so tricky. This flute does not have split E mechanism, despite some literature saying that it does and although I can reach the 3rd E consistently now after lots of practice, after that the notes feel just out of reach. I've seen some very experienced players get much more range out of the Nuvo than I can so I know it's possible but I don't enjoy this flute any more because my progress has become so slow. I do like this flute because it's very sturdy and it can be left out between practice sessions and doesn't need to be handled with too much extra care. It's quirky and cool looking and I don't mind my 3 teens having a bash at it from time to time because I know it won't easily break. It's been useful to be able to pick it up several times a day and I'm not sure I'll practice in the same way with my new flute. However, I'm just not sure this flute is suited to the kind of student who will feel frustrated if it takes a long while to consistently play high notes. I find harmonics to be difficult to play as well, but again, that might just be my lack of experience. If I had known last December that I was definitely going to love the instrument then I might not have bothered with the Nuvo at all. In short, this flute has its good points but I think many people will want to upgrade within 6 months or less, just because of the limitations of this particular instrument.

Enjoyment
Although I havebeen playing for many years I really like the nuvo . Waterproof feels good to hold and looks like the old wooden flutes of the 19 century. I will be playing it in the wind band I belong to, when we are allowed to meet final.

Nuvo student flute
This item is good for learning on. Lightweight. Easy to play. Though needs more air than a metal one. Love the sound deeper like a wooden flute.

Very light
I am an adult beginner and bought this flute as the reviews were decent and it was not too expensive. My teacher had not given her thoughts on this plastic flute until very recently, when she said the the lower notes (right hand) were not behaving as they should! I am returning the flute to Amazon and they are refunding me in full. I have now signed up to Dawkes Music to rent a Yamaha flute for £20 per month. I know the Yamaha will be much heavier as it is metal but I feel it's the right way to go as I would presumably have progressed to a metal flute at some point. Despite this, I do like the Nuvo. It is light, feels robust and well made, you can give it a bath with soapy water so it's easy to keep clean and it's designed to be left out of the box, which has definitely led me to practice more.
