Steck Manufacturing 21910 Car and Light Truck Door Spring Tool

This is an actual quality tool, made in the USA. I've bent two cheap (imported) spring compressors in the past, mainly cuz I didn't know this one existed. It's a great piece of kit, worth every penny of the extra money because it works EXACTLY the way it's supposed to, every time. Stop buying junk! Buy this one right now!

I purposely put the spring lower down on this tool to see if it could withstand the pressure and it did! Don’t bother wasting your money on the cheaper ones you find in the auto parts store or anywhere else they can “work” but you’ll waste more time and effort, that makes it not even worth it. This tool in the other hand you can keep it forever and use it for any future projects and it makes your life 10X better so much better in fact my wife came back and I can see my kids again! I would definitely recommend this tool it took me less than 5 minutes to install the spring on both doors. Would buy again but I don’t have to since this tool is of such high quality!

Purchased "used" from Amazon warehouse $11. Arrived in 2 days, item had been repackaged but no signs of use. My 98 Chevy 1500 doors were sagging and had to be slammed in order to shut. I replaced the door pins and bushings. While I was at it, I figured I'd replace the 20 year old springs. I removed the old springs with a screwdriver. I tried to install the news springs using several tie wraps but they would break. I also tried compressing the springs in a clamp and using #12 AWG solid copper wire. But the copper would break or I could never keep the spring compressed far enough to install. After failing for over an hour, I purchased this tool. Install the spring in the tool and ratchet it down with a wrench. Place it inside the door jamb and releasing the spring. Installation takes less then 2 minutes. When I shut the door, there was a huge "crunch" noise. I opened and shut the door several times to get the spring to settle. I sprayed the door pins, bushings and spring with WD-40 Dry Lube. Do not use regular WD-40, as it's not designs to lube parts. I opened and shut the door several more times and noise was gone. Don't forget yo lube the tailgate and hood while you are out there. This tool is awesome! Worked wonderfully on my 2003 Chevrolet S10. Don’t waste your time with the cheap Chinese imitations that you’ll see for $10. I bought one and it bent immediately and I found this American made tool and immediately ordered it. When it came in I had the door spring installed in a matter of minutes. No B.S. just pure good quality.

I took a gamble with purchasing this tool used, and it was perfect. Good quality, well made, American made tool. I tweaked it a little bit, putting a better washer on it and lubing the screw with never-seize. Be careful with the spring though! I had one pop out and it actually hit the door window, but fortunately it didn't break. (User learning curve, not a fault of the tool.) Safety glasses for your eyes and keep your wits about you. When you get a fully compressed door spring in it, there's a lot of energy.

This tool works exactly as advertised, buy American it’s worth it when you are put a lot of pressure on a spring, great tool and a great value.

A relatively easy job. Steck door hinge spring compression tool worked perfectly. Oiled the adjusting nut as recommended in the instructions. The tool compressed the door spring easily. Used a floor jack to support the door weight,and motorcycle tie down to hold the door to the jack with my wife holding onto the door to steady it. First removed the door spring with Steck tool. Then pulled the hinge pin clips off, then tapped on the hinge pins to move them a little, then held onto door and drove pins out the rest of the way. With door on floor jack, moved door away from vehicle a few inches, with hammer drove the pin bushings out one at a time with a long 3/8 drive extension and flat blade screwdriver. Cleaned the hinge plates, lightly hammered the new bushings into place one at a time to be sure of correct bushing orientation. Then moved door back into place, aligned the pin holes, and pushed pins into place (again need correct orientation) with light hammer taps and firm taps at the end to lock teeth of pin into hinge hole. Oiled pin bushings, then reinstalled the door spring. Job took less than one hour. Wife not too worn out holding onto door:)
