I Got the Rhythm

Its a great storyline!

My littles loved this book between 1-3 years of age, and I've seen it successfully incorporated into library storytimes that include even slightly older children. The simple text lends itself well to active participation, with finger snapping, toe tapping, knee slapping, etc. That the illustrations are likewise dynamic aids in engaging and energizing the audience as well.Note: For some reason I always found it more natural to repeat the actions or sounds two more times than what the author wrote. For example, the text would read, "I heard the rhythm with my ears. Beat. Beat." But I would read it aloud as, "I heard the rhythm with my ears. Beat. Beat. Beat. Beat." To me, the extra repetitions helped establish a better sense of rhythm, although I'm sure if I heard the author herself read the story, I would realize and appreciate why she opted for only two reps.

Excellent book, my son is almost two and he LOVES it. He requests I read it over and over. He likes to touch his various body parts coinciding with the little girl in the book. The Illustrations are vibrant and beautiful. The words have a great rhythm. Best of all, the book promotes the acceptance of all people regardless of color and features a little Black girl and her mother! Love love love this book!

Love the concept of this book; we saw it in our local library's storytime and my 2 year old is starting to pay more attention to music, singing, and dancing. This book provides a really fun way to learn new words and ideas about those things!

Love this book! The illustrations are vibrant and seem to come alive. My three year olds love the onomatopoeia. Incorporating movement (we actually snap our fingers, clap our hands and stomp our feet along to the story) also does wonders for helping them connect sound to text and to images. It's also incredibly valuable to have attractive images of people that look like our family and of neighborhoods that look like ours reflected in books. I'm happy to have found this.

This was a great book to explore different places to find rhythm.

This is a great book. It's simple enough for toddlers, but the drawings are off the charts. Love the inner-city setting. Love the idea that the rhythm is something you don't just hear and feel, but that you can catch, see, taste, smell, etc. Very cool.My little guy loves music, so I'm always on the lookout for books that tie in with that. This book focuses more on dance and (like the name implies) rhythm. But it's a fun one, and he enjoys it.

I got this for my niece for Christmas. She loves it and made me read it to her again and again. Very happy with this book
