National Geographic Readers: Penguins!

This is not what I expect from a National Geographic Publication. If Disney has lowered Nat Geo’s standards after they purchased it, shame on them. The information is age appropriate for a 5-year old and the photos should have been lovely. The paper is fairly flimsy and the photos are fuzzy and out of focus. We have National Geographic children’s books that have lasted through thirty years of young readers. This is not likely to survive to child number 2. Very disappointed and debating about returning it.

This book was excellent for having my 3rd graders learn how to do a research report on animals. The information was useful and easy to find. The text was readable and students were successful.

This book elicited squeals of glee from the 5-year-old we gave it to as a gift. If penguins are your (or your kid's) jam, this book should be on your shelf. It's a relatively easy reader, lots of great photographs (obviously - it's Nat Geo!), and tons of little facts about penguins. It's something kids can pore over on their own or have a grown up read to them, and as they emerge as readers it's a great way to get started with a subject they love. Really high quality, a great size for kids to keep next to their bed or in a book bag, and informative. The perfect gift or read for any young school age child with an interest in nature.

The 5 year old penguin lover whom I purchased this for had me read it to him the moment he pulled it out of the box. We love it. Short book, but true to form, National Geographic has made it fun and educational.

We bought this for my son's kindergarten classroom, but read it before bringing it in. My 7 year old son read it with ease, and there were enough 'sight words' in it for my 5 year old to read some as well.

We gave this book and a penguin plushie to our young grandson after a visit to the aquarium. He loves the photos and the information we read to him. He will enjoy this book for many years!

Like all of the National Geographic books, a wonderful product. The pages are smooth and durable. No rips so far despite the fact that we've read this book a lot. It is age appropriate without patronizing kids.

Bought as a stocking filler present for my niece who is 7.She loved this book! When I had a flick through it, it's so informative for children! She learned quite a lot and told me things about penguins etc.She loved it so much so, she bought a subscription to national geographic kids magazine! Bless her little cottons

Beautiful, with lots of nice photographs inside. Perfect for kids who love penguins.
