How can bottom chamber be properly cleaned of fecal matter if chamber has only a small hole and cannot be opened?

Great question I wondered also. These portable toilets can actually be watered down with a hose. And that button can get dirty. You’re talking about the release valve button when emptying, yes? I use mine Thetford full time and once every 2 weeks, at time with each emptying, I take a hose to both top and bottom. I dry it off with paper towels and it’s good as new. If your at an RV park they often have a water station at the dump station. Keeping PT in its best condition and free of smells requires keeping it clean. I hope this helps. How many oz of toilet chemical is recommended for this toilet? The owner's manual does not address this.

Update on the chemical usage… So, I initially said I use about 2 oz out of sixteen ounces of Walex brand sanitizer (it comes dry in small packets) which I drop in a total of sixteen ounces when desolated in a 16 oz graduated canning jar. They advertise that it should last 7 to 10 days. However in light usage (several #1) it lasted a full month using only 2 of the 16 ounces of liquid. I just added 2 more ounces without dumping. So far all is well, no odors at all, unless you open the dump valve, then we are back to a faint odor of Lavender. The unit is stored in the back cap of a pickup. And the weather has been on the warm side 70 to 90 Degrees F. So I would say that is a fair deal with excellent results. We’ll just see how long the next 2 ounces of sanitizer last.

Does it have a pour spout for emptying and is it hard to clean out?

The pour spout is built in - you disconnect the top half and the spout is on top of the tank portion- it swivels out for emptying. Really easy. Cleans well too - a few rinses with clean water. We are pleased with it.

Is this just for urine? I don’t see any info on emptying BM/#2.

This is for urine and solid waste. The 2-4 oz. of chemical that you add to the base along with a small amount of water, breaks down the solid waste and toilet paper. When you detach the top seat part from the base, there is a tube with a cap that swings out so you can dump the contents. The contents will have become a fairly innocuous smelling slurry and it should pour easily. It is possible that there will be some un broken down matter pouring out. It depends on how long the contents have been subjected to the break down chemical. Tampons, pads, anything not urine, solid waste, toilet paper should not be “flushed” into the catch base.
