The Boss of Card Deck Games!
Simple premise, hokey even... but darned if it isn't a lot of fun! We've played with numerous friends from young to old, and everyone has a great time. Games take maybe an hour, give or take, and there are many expansion decks to add to the mix in case the experience ever goes stale. Yippee!

Wonderful game for first timers.
Great game! We bought the original a year ago and the cards are already worn from extreme use. This is would be a would be a good game for beginners. Easy instructions, easy play, and fun.

Great expansion to add new mechanics
Who doesn't want all the mini-bosses to make a deadly dungeon? Also, the spell cards have a greater variety of effects that I really enjoy over the base game spells.

Great game would buy again
Great game, really fun. Nice twist on set up of the game compared to binding of Isaac or munchkin. Lots of replay ability.

Balanced, yet complex.
Ever since I started Boss Monsters, I loved this series. I loved the retro-style artwork, the references to old games and/or movies/comics, and the overall simplicity of the mechanics. My only major gripe, however, was the existence of cards in the sets that I felt were TOO powerful (like Freeze, Jeopardy, etc.). In Rise of the Mini-bosses, the only card I can think of that is too strong is Rebirth, and that card can backfire on you, as while it forces an opponent to discard their hand, they draw the exact same numbers of each type of card back. Mini-bosses can only be built on existing rooms, leveled up once per turn, and cannot exist adjacent to another mini-boss, meaning that a dungeon can only have 3 minibosses in their setup at best. Then, as the backbone of this expansion, almost everything points back to the primary new mechanic of this expansion: the coins. Coins are key, as they level up mini-bosses, can cancel certain cards, or weaken them, and there is a limited number of coins per game: once the bank dries up, mini-bosses become useless, as whenever you use their level 3 power, which takes 3 turns and 3 coins to unlock, your mini-boss reverts back to level 1. This series isn't perfect, don't get me wrong, but if you want a Boss Monster set to start out with that is fun, interesting, and balanced, Rise of the Mini-Bosses would be my recommendation to start out with.

Boss Monster is easy to pick up, relatively quick rounds and is a nice short little game to play. Expansion packs offer more versitile play. Recommended to have in your game collection.

The idea is solid on paper and the cards in the set are cool with a great new addition to the original game. However for an expansion it doesn't add enough. There aren't enough minibosses to justify adding this to the original set and getting one during a game is a slim chance. I'd say if it's to be justified we need more miniboss expansions in future with WAY more minibosses.
