Google Home & Plug review
This plug works great!!! Turning on and off is INSTANT when using the Smart Life App. I also use it with my Google Home. The pairing and use is very easy. I did have some issues nicknaming the plug because I wanted to use a “Mr.” in front of it, but it didn’t like that. The issues were all on Googles end, so the plug did/does it’s job great! MartinJerry customer service was HIGHLY IMPRESSIVE. They reached out a few days after I ordered the plug (before it even got here) and attached some install guide PDF’s for use with Alexa, Google Home, etc. I also asked them about the issue I was having with the nickname. Even though the issue wasn’t on their end they gave me some tips to get it resolved! Very impressive customer service. I currently use it for my switch on candle with the wax in the top. It’s great when I want the house to smell fresh, I just ask my google home, “Ok Google. Turn on the Owl” (it’s shaped like an owl) and it turns it on right away! The plug is pretty big, but still works with a standard cord in the 2nd outlet. BARELY works with a MacBook charging cord in the 2nd outlet. Does not work with any other plugs that are angled downward. I wanted to use this outlet for my coffee maker, but cannot do so since you have to leave whatever you want to turn on in an ON position. My coffee maker has a button, not a switch. I’m sure I’ll use this smart plug for lights, lamps, and many other things in the future! Highly recommend!!!

3 of the four failed within the 1st year
I purchased a four-pack in January, 2024. All the plugs initially came up and were working fine with Home Assistant on my house network. One failed within the first couple of weeks - the reset light stopped working and it was completely dead. I contacted the vendor and they couldn't send a single replacement but did refund 1/4 of the cost of the 4-pack to my Amazon account. Two of the remaining plugs failed in the same way within 9-months of purchase - the plugs went completely dead. I don't know if this was just a bad batch but I would not recommend purchasing this smart plug.

Great Smart Plug, Easy ESPHome (re)flash!
These Plug V by Martin Jerry smart plugs are fantastic! Pre-flashed with Tasmota, they’re super easy to reflash with ESPHome via OTA using the Tasmota web UI. The ESP8266-based plug works flawlessly with my Home Assistant setup, with the relay (GPIO12), button (GPIO13), and LED (GPIO4) configured perfectly using the provided template. Sturdy, reliable, and compact, these plugs are a solid choice for home automation.

easy to set up! works great!
I bought this for my living room light to work with Echo/Alexa. It was easy to set up and works just as described. I wasn't sure if it would connect to Google Wi-Fi ok, because Google Wi-Fi doesn’t let you you select 2.4ghz over 5ghz. But Smartplug automatically found the 2.4ghz, phew. Just a couple of things to mention - First is that the little printed instruction manual is minuscule and I had to use a magnifying glass to read it. Maybe it’s on the web somewhere to download, but it was easier to use the magnifying glass. The other is that the plug was too big to fit in the outlet next to another large-ish plug, but I was able to find a good spot for it. All the smart plugs on Amazon seem to be this size. Overall I love it and would buy again.

initially unreliable but the newer version seems to be OK
Update 12/03/2017: the new unit still goes offline sometimes and can't be controlled. However, timer functions still work. I wonder if the more expensive ones are any better? Updated 11/6/17: The vendor sent me a new unit as promised, and it works much better. I have an older unit which still drops out (unreachable) at times, but this newer release is working fine. We had a power failure and it threw off the scheduled actions for both units. I reset and "rediscovered" one (requiring me to enter in the schedule again) to fix it, the other I unplugged for a few days and that seemed to make it happier. Now, after DST, they haven't gotten the time right (they are still off by an hour) and I don't know how to resolve that issue either. The software makes no provision for that, not that I can find. That's really the only fault that remains to be resolved, and I can just reset the units and "discover" them again like I did after the power failure. If not for that, it would be five stars. Original review: I've bought two of these things now, different brands, different sellers, but they appear to be identical, with identical packaging, appearance, the same horribly translated user guide and basically the same performance. Made in China, natch. So why the three stars? Because I'm feeling generous today, that's why. These things are difficult to setup the first time, largely because of the unhelpful instructions. However, once you get past that, you can get your Echo to learn the new skill (easy) and control it from your phone or Echo. Google home is not supported. It works great until it stops working. I've had both units stop responding. I don't know why. Sometimes you have to reset them and relearn them, other times if you just wait a few minutes they'll restore themselves. This does not fall into the "reliable" or "dependable" category. For what they cost, you can be assured that only the cheapest, least expensive commodity components are included, and so the quality appears to be rather sub-par. I like to save money, but I would gladly spend twice as much if I could get a unit that would work consistently and reliably. I guess the lesson here is, don't put the unit where it's difficult to get to (which is really the point of having a remotely controlled outlet...) because you will likely have to get to it to reset it. Again and again.

Absolute Garbage!! Stay away from these! Save your money and sanity!
First group of these that I bought lasted a while, so I bought another pack of 4. These began failing after Amazon return period ended. Several plugs connects to wifi repeatedly (like every 20 or 30 seconds), but never stay connected. Another plug won't connect to wifi, regardless of correct password or not. Tried flashing one to ESPhome, and it actually behaved for a little while before going back to misbehaving. WAF dropped like a stone. The plug finally failed and my wife is very unhappy, as she is dealing with vertigo and cannot bend over easily to manually turn off the nightlight that it was attached to. I've sent an email to Martin Jerry about this. Haven't heard anything back yet, but to be fair, I just emailed this like 5 minutes ago. Response time is supposed to be within 12 hours.... Will update once I get a response back. Regardless of outcome, I ABSOLUTELY WOULD NOT recommend. UPDATE: Received a replacement pack, most of which failed inside of a month. Requested and received a refund. Would rate with negative numbers if I could.

Great Quality & Easy Setup (no cumbersome WiFi switching during setup)
I was a bit skeptical when I saw this product. It's a lot more affordable than it's competitors (such as TP-Link). The smart plug comes in a very simple box that is only a little bigger than the smart plug itself. Setup is EXTREMELY easy. I'm the tech person in my household and this is by far the easiest smart device I've set up. The instructions provide a QR code that will open up a link on your mobile device to the app that controls this device (TuyaSmart). Once the app is installed all you need to do is plug in the smart plug into an outlet, hold the power button for 5 seconds to put it in setup mode, and then the app with automatically connect to it when you click next. What I really like about this product is that I don't have to connect to the device's own WiFi network in order to set it up like other smart devices; the app takes care of the connection for you without the cumbersome WiFi switching. I bought 4 of these and setup one of them with a hallway lamp to control using Amazon Echo's Alexa. I haven't set up the other 3, but I'm guessing it will be a piece of cake. The build quality is very nice. For the price I expected something that feels cheap, but it actually feels comparable it's competitors products.

Works perfectly. Excellent price. You must read instructions first.
You will need a magnifying glass to read the instructions. You will need to install the product free app first. Then, you need to add information to the Alexa app, in the skills section. Just read instructions with the help of a magnifying glass and you will have no problems. This is not a product that you can instinctively install without reading the instructions. It works wonderfully and is the best value around. I first purchased one for my bedroom light and just purchased 2 more, for the living room and for the coffee pot. Update: once you have the first set up, setting up additional smart plugs takes about a minute. You just go to the smart plugs app, make sure the plug light is blinking and the program finds the app and applies the saved Wi-Fi information. Easy peasy! Buy this plug and add other's around your house.
