CucinaPro Bubble Waffler, Black
I am impressed with this little electric bubble waffle maker. Right out of the box it performed well and other than working out just how full the device needed to be to arrive at a perfect waffle, and finding a satisfactory recipe, I encountered no problems. Like most small electric appliances, it can't be submerged in water. Before the first use, to ensure anything left on the surface after manufacturing is removed, wipe the interior with a damp, slightly soapy paper towel and follow it immediately with another damp towel to wipe up any and all soap residue. Normally, this is an instruction found in the user's guide, but it was not mentioned. To make a waffle first spray both plates of the interior surface with a cooking oil spray - I used Trader Joe's coconut oil which worked beautifully. I avoid sprays that contain silicone because that is not the best thing to consume, and it often leaves a sticky coating that is difficult to remove. The instructions state to spray the plates before heating up the unit, and to do this every time the waffle maker is used. One good spray lasted through the entire batch of batter. Of course, a pastry brush to distribute oil over the surface may be used but it does take longer. Next, close up the unit and plug it in. The red light is lit when it is plugged in. The green light comes on when the unit is preheated and ready to go. Put in enough batter to fill one side of the bubble indentations and lightly cover the plate surrounding them with a thin layer. To keep clean-up to a minimum, try to limit the batter to just that area - and avoid the over-flow track around the perimeter. A silicone spatula can be quickly swiped across the surface to level and evenly spread the batter. The surface is hot and the cooking begins almost immediately so moving quickly is a good goal. I discovered using a plastic squeeze bottle filled with batter (like those red and yellow mustard/ketchup dispensers) to load the iron worked well. Close, but don't latch the lid and then gently flip the iron over so the batter is transferred to the other waffle plate. Three minutes cooking time resulted in, for my taste, the perfectly cooked bubble waffle. There is no timer or indicator light on the appliance that announces doneness - I used an oven timer. The only problem I encountered was when I forgot to let the maker heat up again between waffles and just pulled one out and immediately added more batter. That one needed more time to cook because the maker was no longer hot enough. So, after removing a finished bubble waffle, close the lid and wait for the green light indicating the unit is ready to cook before adding batter. With that one adjustment, I had nothing but perfect results with soft bubbles and a crunchy surrounding area. Time can be adjusted by adding or subtracting a bit in either direction for less or more cooking time but three minutes seemed perfect. I did not care for the recipe included with the unit, so I scoured the internet and was not entirely happy with what I found there either, so I ended up adapting a recipe with changes that resulted in a bubble waffle closer to what I think is a more authentic taste. If interested, I've included my recipe at the end of the review. I also looked into this mysterious "custard powder" ingredient included in some of the recipes. I almost just ordered the custard powder but after searching chef sites for details about its make-up it largely consists of ingredients already included in the basic batter less some chemicals. So, I eliminated it although accounted for it through slight increases in applicable ingredients. The lights on the top of the waffle maker don't indicate when a waffle is done, unlike some standard waffle irons. The red light confirms the appliance is plugged in and the green light indicates it is pre-heated and ready to begin cooking. The green light can come on and go off during cooking and cannot be relied on to indicate doneness. Use a timer to know when to remove the waffle. Metal utensils should not be used with the unit to avoid damage to the non-stick surface. When I was done with the batch I waited for the maker to cool down and then gave it a quick wipe with a damp paper towel to remove any crumbs or residue. If any batter overflows and gets stuck in any crevices of the unit, a wooden bamboo skewer works well to remove anything in the cracks and seams. This s a specialty appliance and like electric pizzelle irons there are not many choices. This one is decidedly without bells and whistles, but it worked well. It also removes the guess work of using a manual bubble waffle iron which I imagine has a much steeper learning curve since cooking depends upon the heat of the iron and the heat at the burner rather than that contained within the electric maker. I will update the review if I encounter any quality problems, but for now I am very pleased with the purchase. Recipe M's Bubble Waffle Batter - one batch makes five bubble waffles 1 cup plus 2 Tablespoons cake flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 2 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch 2 large eggs 3/4 cup granulated sugar 3 Tablespoons evaporated milk 1/2 cup water 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil (I used olive oil) Combine cake flour, baking powder and cornstarch and whisk to blend dry ingredients together. In a separate bowl whisk sugar, eggs, vanilla and oil until well incorporated then gradually add the water and milk. Slowly add the dry ingredients, whisking as you go. If possible put batter into a squeeze bottle for ease of dispensing. After spraying both plates of the waffle maker with cooking spray, close lid (don't latch), plug it in and wait for the green light to indicate it is done pre-heating. Squeeze batter into the center of the plate and use a silicone spatula to quickly spread into and over the indentations leaving a thin coating over the plate. Try to avoid getting excess in the overflow tray. Lower the lid (don't latch) and gently flip iron over so the batter will flow into the other plate. Set a timer for three minutes and check doneness. Checking earlier may split the bubble waffle so try to wait the full three minutes and make adjustments from there. Use silicone fork or spatula to remove waffle. Before starting next bubble waffle, close up unit until green light reappears.

Simple, elegant, and true to standards.
If you're on the fence about this type of bubble waffle maker, purchase this one. Your choices are extremely limited at this time, as this specific waffle maker is not incredibly popular in America currently. You could purchase a model from Bed Bath & Beyond, but be warned, you'll be paying nearly double for the same machine. They do not carry them in store. Here on Amazon, they are promptly available. I have been very happy with this Waffle maker. It is incredibly easy to clean, and it's just a breeze to actually use. The waffles come out blooming with bubbles, which makes it different than the usual waffle. Overall, it's a fun little kitchen instrument that makes any breakfast fun and delicious. Also, the boxed batter (just add water) works perfectly fine with this model. Highly recommended.

Good bubble waffle maker but hard to clean
The waffle came great as shown on advertisements but it is very hard to clean the machine and I hate that but over. I also wish there was a temperature control button. Overall, it's great and fun. The waffles are different and beautiful. Sizes good but the shapes are never the same as the picture on the box. Coating great. Non stick easy to remove waffles

I actually love this waffle maker!
I've used this waffle maker several times and really love it. It's for making Hong Kong style bubble waffles only. Using regular waffle batter makes ok waffles but they're definitely not as good as when you use the authentic Hong Kong style bubble waffle recipe. The HK bubble waffles are so much sweeter and crispier than regular waffles. The outside is really crisp and the inside of the bubbles are sweet and delicious. This maker, using the original HK recipe makes great snack waffles that need no butter or syrup. Of course you can add any toppings you want, but if you eat them as is, right out of the iron, they're exceptional! By the way, the recipe that is provided with the maker is NOT the original Hong Kong style bubble waffle recipe! Also, if you our too much batter into the machine, it will overflow allowing uncooked batter to seep into the space between the plate and the housing. To thoroughly clean it, you have to take it apart with a screwdriver to access the inside of this maker. A bit of a pain but doable. Wish it were more sealed. But I still love this thing!

Makes a Neat little treat
Okay so when I ordered I didnt see it was a bubble waffle maker. I only really saw waffle and the terrific deal being offered (had to wait couple hours for the full benefit but worth it) so then it arrives and I'm thinking okay interesting. Little different, but since it's for the grandkids I figured well wed just have to see what they thought. All I have to say is Wow Talk about a hit. Their 1 and 2 years old and they devoured several of them, Didnt even wait for syrup the 2 year old got half a waffle got shown how to pull the "bubbles" off and she was gone. The little guy is actually the bigger eater and his assessment is num num num. And ahhh. They loved the little balls (bubbles) perfect for their tiny hands and about 2 bites per ball each. They are just perfect for little hands and little mouths. Of course the perfect at grandmas cuz works as finger foods. Also went over great with the adults I cant wait to try some of the other ideas and/or recipies, with them for new treats. Quick simple with any waffle mix.

Fetten, befühlen, einmal umdrehen, kurz warten - lecker!

My son is very fussy eater, but loves ‘puddle waffles’ from Liverpool. Sadly we live about 2 hours away, so a weekly visit isn’t going to happen. This is a fab little machine, cooks quickly, evenly & cleans easily inside. Overspill isn’t so easy but not enough to put me off buying again. Don’t overfill the irons, I use a scotch pancake recipe which is better than those in the instructions, but it’s about personal choice. I will be gifting these machines to friends, so yes, I’d definitely recommend, enjoy!
