Does brighten = whiten? Does this have bleaching qualities? I do not want to lighten my skin!

The nomenclature of Korean and East Asian skincare is entirely different. It's based on NON-COLONIAL beauty standards that are millenia old, in phenotypically homogenous cultures where everybody was/is Asian. Brightening/lightening/whitening (often interchangeable in labeling) do not refer to being lighter skinned. LIkewise, "blemish" is used in its Oxford Dictionary meaning of a visible mark, not in the American market usage of acne. The overall goal of Asian skincare is to create a HEALTHY, UNIFORM, lit-from-within appearance by addressing inflammatory markers, normal oxidation and oxidative stress, epidermal turnover, dullness, accumulated/uneven pigmentation, redness, sebum overproduction/accumulation, poor barrier function, and oxidation. Watch any current K-drama or C-drama, and you'll see what that looks like. Extracts from rice embryos,bran, proteins, and its humectant starches try to address these issues. Brightening here is about removing dead epidermal cells and calming down inflammatory reactions.
