Does one need a pair to workout effectively?

No you don’t need a pair. When I take a daily walk I take it with me so since I always have it in one hand or the other, the only rest I get is when I switch hands. The shape of it allows for different positions to gain grip strength. I perform curls, side and front lateral raises etc. I highly recommend it. I have the 10lb and the constant reps make it just right.
