SUPER SECRET SAUCE RECEPIE DISCLOSED - PEPPERCORN STEAK SAUCE
Using this for years by also adding whole GREEN peppercorns as a steak sauce. Its best to add the peppercorns a couple hours before with mild heat and let sit. The peppercorns need time to open its flavor. Some times I add some more fresh peppercorns a few minutes before serving for a textured burst effect for certain guests that like this. You can also put the fresh peppercorns on the side to sprinkle in if you like these. Hint, add a little A1 (like 5%) and it takes on 'the secret sauce' king of steak sauces. Knorr and A1 should be taking note of this secret combination.

Gluten free and works well
Gluten free. Does a decent job creating a Demi grace. The small plastic tubs (of real Demi glace) are superior (I forget the brand but available on Amazon) but this powder is handy and works pretty well. I use it to slightly thicken jus or stock based gravy rather than flour.

LOTS of sugar
I was double-checking and noticed the “vegetarian” tag. I was searching for a replacement for the now-defunct More Than Gourmet demi glace. I’ve tried multiple brands, each one more ghastly than the last. Most fail by having little flavor and way too much salt. I don’t mean that in the way most people do, as a healthy-eating thing, but in the sense of having little real flavor except the saltiness. With More Than Gourmet, you could add more in order to increase the beefiness of your sauce, but you can’t with the salty ones. If you read the ingredient list on this one, there are a great many chemical additives, plus multiple sources of sugar. (I’ve noticed many companies listing around five types/sources of sugar, in a clear effort to push said sugar farther down the list of ingredients, which are listed from most to least. There may not be a major amount of any single one, but cumulatively, it’s another matter.) I don’t understand why it has any at all, but given that I’ve had pimiento cheese where sugar was a major ingredient (whereupon I literally spit it out), this may just be where we are headed. Diabetics beware.

Yes - there are times I do not make my own sauces...
Knorr Swiss and I have had a long and on-going relationship. There are very few commercial kitchens where you can produce your own beef stock in 60 gallon steam kettles and let it simmer for days to get that rich stock you are looking for. The first time I used this demi-glace' I was hesitant until I tasted the results. Add in a good burgundy reduction, fresh crack peppercorns and finish with marrow or butter and the sauce is superb!
