A rice cooker turns off when a temperature sensor detects a sudden rise in temperature. As you know, water boils at 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit) so when the temperature goes above that, it means that the water has boiled off. It will cook half a cup of rice with 1 cup of water in about 10 minutes. There is a red light while it's boiling. When it stops, the light is orange, which keeps it warm. So, it doesn't actually turn off, you have to unplug it. I would love if it had a switch and I could leave it plugged in. It's a simple design, with a non-stick bowl which is easy to clean. It's small, I would say it could hold 2 cups of cooked rice, but that's fine for my needs. The glass lid has a steam hole. In summary, it works, and it's good value, easy to use and attractive.

I appreciate simple appliances without a lot of complicated setting and buttons. This is as simple as it gets. If you put two scoops (with the included scoop) of rice in, fill the line on the inner pot with water (I like using broth) to the 2, set it in the appliance and press the button. The spring at the bottom weighs it and sets its own perfect cooking time and then bam, fluff it with a fork after it’s done and that’s it! Love it.
