This is a benefit especially when you require your phone for other purposes. Being able to communicate better and eliminating barriers between languages was a futuristic concept, like the universal translator from Star Trek®. Having a standalone system, such as this, does open up many doors. For me, it is being able to enjoy TV shows that are not English. Mind blowing for me just to be able to understand what is being said, even if not 100% perfect, but accurate enough to understand the concept. This works both online and offline and there are more languages included than I will likely ever need. The built in screen is what makes this one work well for me. With other translation tools with earbuds, you need to SHARE an earbud with a stranger to use effectively...um no? With the simple interface, you select the two languages and it works by pressing the associated button to the language and it translates on screen. The earbuds do also work if you are listing to a video, the translation is heard in the earbuds. You an also use them just as earbuds and connect as you would with regular buds. All in all, this is a great system for travellers, businesspeople, or anyone that works with people that may speak languages other than you native language. I found that it worked surprisingly well and I am really happy with the results. Recommended.
