The case is nice. Haven’t figured out why it’s so thick when it doesn’t have to be.I’ve used them with the hexagon handle that Hanson has. A solid piece that the die drops into and a collar rotates to lock it in place.

Irwin/Hanson dies have a great long-term reputation. However, when I got this set I thought their quality control might have diminished over time. In the photo on the left is a 1/2-13 NC from this set and on the right is the same size from a Hanson set I bought about 20 years ago. Note the new die on the left has curled burrs at the trailing edge of each thread. I've only used the old dies occasionally, but the one on the right has held up very well over time. So I tried the new die to cut some half inch threads and it worked fine, but surprise... the burrs broke off. Leaving me to wonder if the old one also had burrs initially too. So I looked at the old die under a 10X lens and there was indeed evidence that it had burrs too. So the moral of this story is if you buy these and they have burrs, it will not likely interfere with the function of the die and probably last for many years. Nevertheless, burrs don't give a high quality impression, so I rated this 4 stars instead of 5.Also I thought these were self-aligning because the video accompanying the description of this set shows self-aligning dies in the same type of container. Still worth the price, but not self aligning.

Made in USA. Excellent quality self adjusting dies. I needed just a few sizes but decided to get this set to replace my round dies. I'm happy that I did. These 1 " hex dies are very easy to use with a wrench and they go in straight.

As a machinist I was tired of having problems threading with a couple of die sets I have so bought these. Wow all my problems gone and perfect threads. Couldn't be happier!! Revision after using them for 3 months. One broke on first use and Irwin replaced it. Another doesn't cut threads correctly and waiting for a response. But most important Irwin's web site says these are NOT for threading but repair!

Bought the set for a project and was happy, until a few months later and I needed the 10-24NC die. I realized it was never included, instead they put in two 8-32NC. Plus the box is about 10 times bigger then it needs to be, lots of wasted plastic that takes up room in my shop that I'll be throwing away. Totally wasteful.
