Sawgrass SG500 Sublimation Printer

Q: My wife wants to be able to print tshirt designs. Is this the right printer.

This is a sublimation printer, which means you will need at least a medium quality heat press as well. Sublimation requires the t-shirt material to be polyester or at minimum a cotton poly blend. I would suggest doing some research on Youtube first. Some people have claimed to sublimate on 100% cotton with special spray solutions but i’ve never tried it

Q: Can you do everyday regular printing with this printer?

I noted that someone answered that you would not want to do everyday printing with this because the ink is too expensive. That's only a small portion of why you wouldn't want to. Sublimation inks are specially formulated to use sublimation paper and infuse into materials. What's more, they only really achieve their color when activated by the heating process. So, while you CAN print standard items on regular paper with this, the prints would be horribly dull and not give you an accurate representation of your image or document.

Q: Will the prints stick to black cotton?

No - in order to sublimate onto cotton you would have to use another medium with it like glitter HTV of easysubli

Q: It says this works with a desktop, can you use a lap top?

Yes I use my MacBook. But hate that I purchased it! Great printer but didn’t read on how much the ink cost. There are so many out there that will do the same thing as this printer at a cheaper price. I don’t do that much product.
