This novel tells the story of the concurrent bravery and atrocities of World War Two. Emotionally fraught, it took me back to those years, the first, of my life. One agent of the horrific bombings does not appear, however, in this work: The British did bomb at night, but the Americans did so during the day; there was no reprieve. Maybe the dating of the bombings in this novel makes it possible to omit this fact in a work that also presents the Allies as indisputable heroes. What Sepetys does to reveal the realities of Soviet occupation, Labuskes does for the Nazi oppression.

I'm never disappointed with the books I chosen that are written by Brianna Labuskes. She knows how to tell a story which keeps you from hating to put the book down. I'm sure everyone who reads this book will enjoy it and look for another by this author.
