Take Me with You : Hyde, Catherine Ryan: desertcart.in: Bags, Wallets and Luggage Review: Must read - You may start to see the world differently. Its hard to find good people. Epic journey in a camper van. I suggest all to read this simple, loving and adventurous story.

This was a riviting read! Enjoyable on so many levels, as well as thought provoking and insightful. I highly recommend this book to young and old alike. I have no problem understanding why this author is a best seller!

I loved this book for many reasons - the writing is great and the story line is unique - but the main reasons are that it reminded me of the many road trips my family took as I was growing up in the 60s. While it wasn't quite an RV, we had a small Winnebago travel trailer, and each summer we took a two-week trip. My favorites were to the West to visit the many national parks there. The reactions of Seth and Henry reminded me of my own impressions of the scenery; those trips changed my life, made me want to know more about American history, and contributed to the love I have for history today. Many of the children I know have not had the opportunity for such travel; it is not unusual for children that I deal with to have never traveled beyond the borders of their home state. I can't help but feel such a trip would be life changing for almost any young person (and get them away from the video screens for a while, to boot). I was drawn to August's character because he reminded me of myself when my children were growing up. There were a number of my children's friends who came from broken homes or abusive situations, and sometimes my home was a temporary haven for them. For a while, I served as a surrogate mother, mentor, friend - whatever was needed at the time. Many of those children moved away, and they all are grown, but from time to time I hear from them and how they appreciated the care and concern I had for them. Reluctant as he is to take on the responsibility for the boys, August's mentoring provides them with hope and a vision - which is the theme in the second half of the book. And the ending is hopeful for August who assumed that his days of traveling were over because of health issues. This will be my new "must read" recommendation to my friends and colleagues for a book that is well worth the time. It is the first I have read by Hyde, although I have seen the movie "Pay it Forward".
