Hayward SPX1600S Cover Gasket Replacement for Hayward Superpump

I have an inground pool my parents first installed 40 years ago when I was 12 years old. It's safe so say I know this pool and it's equipment quite well. I have replaced countless gaskets over the years and the most important thing I have learned is only buy Hayward parts!Yes Amazon can be great for finding obscure items fast and cheap, but when it comes to something like a pump gasket don't cheap out, scroll down to the more expensive listings please. Just replaced a crap gasket I got here last year because it was already done. Normally pump gasket will go 5-8 years but this thing didn't last one season before it was losing it's shape, getting hard around the edges and leaking. I once had a hose failure empty my 25,000 gallons completely overnight so I don't mess around with any critical parts anymore. Never has a Hayward part failed on me. Ever.

Perfect fit

Hayward cover gaskets are an exact fit for your superpump. Although this costs nearly twice as much as a generic, it's well worth the cost. These gaskets last for years, thus it's best to order the OEM. I tried using a generic brand; however, I needed to cut the gasket, since it wouldn't fit exactly on the pump. It works; however, it's not a tight seal, as air is still able to enter the pump container.

Poorly designed gasket. Sure it does what its supposed to, but you have to work at it to get it to work. Its too big for the 1600d cover right out of the bag and you have to force it in. Then after its been on for only a month and you pull the top to clean the basket, its stretched more and won't go back on without putting it in the freezer (thanks for the tip from another reviewer). Not sure why this gets such great reviews, sure it works, but a direct gasket replacement should be an exact fit, not fight with it until it works.Edit: I was contacted by Hayward customer service and they supplied me with a replacement. I have not used it yet however as I already bought one from the pool store that was a perfect fit. I don't know why the one I bought did not fit, but others have said the same thing. If you get one that doesn't fit well, put it in the freezer. If that still doesn't fit, contact the seller as you likely got a bad part.

This gasket is the correct trapezoidal shape that all the non-Hayward pump rebuild kits fail to get right.

Works good on hayward pump

I gave it Five Stars because it fit perfectly. I am happy with the product. However, if your problem is a slow leak, or a spurt of water each time you turn the pump on or off, you may want to replace the lid. I happened to have saved the lid from my first Hayward pump. The new/old lid is what solved the problem.
