Q: I have a sawstop jobsite saw. a year ago i tried a thin-kerf blade, but quickly stopped using it because the riving knife would bind. does this fix?

Probably not. If the knife is binding because it's not properly aligned with the saw blade then yes it's a possibility the shims will help with the problem... albeit a small one. The purpose of the shims is to ensure all of your blades always have the right side of the blade in exactly the same spot. This way the cut line from your fence to the blade is accurate regardless of which blade is installed making the tape measure associated with your rip fence accurate for all blades. Chances are you have an issue with the riving knife being thicker than the blade itself or else the knife is not properly aligned. I would check with your saws instruction manual for the proper method to align the riving knife with the blade. Then after that procedure is complete the arbor shims will ensure all of your blades are properly positioned for the fence.
