Uniquely Wired: A Story About Autism and Its Gifts for Kids ages 6-9 Review: Great intro to austic thought and mannerisms in a positive way. - I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. Yes, this is a children’s book, but it is great for anyone of any age who has limited experience with an autistic child. I would recommend it for siblings, grandparents, friends, etc. Everyone of all ages read it in my family and agree it helps with info in a fresh way. Not meant as a text of deep study, but let’s the reader think in a very positive manner abt the subject. Review: Great book! - This is a great book for both children and adults learning about autism and themselves. Completely recommend this book

Great for autistic children, typical peers, teachers and adults!
This is one of the first Autism books that I can honestly recommend. There have always been bits or pieces of information or language that didn't sit well with me in others. I will be purchasing a copy for both of my son's teachers from here on out every year, and sending a copy to all family! This is a great book to introduce autism to typically developing peers also, and contains a concise informational section at the end for adults. I love that Julia Cook and Melissa Reinhardt, MD decided to include tip # 9 "Celebrate the wins! When you work with a child on the spectrum, you get to see and celebrate accomplishments with a fullness and satisfaction that others with typically developing children may gloss over or take for granted - being able to buckle a seatbelt, consistently putting on clothes the right way, being able to open a screen door that requires pushing and pulling at the same time, uttering spontaneous, fluid sentences, or hugging with their arms wrapped all the way around your neck! Those are the moments, the glimpses inside, we live for and need to celebrate." We love Julia Cook's books!

Great book for classroom use
This book was great! I read it to my class, as we have a student with autism. It was helpful to gain an understanding of what autism is like. It also was good to help guide conversation around this topic with third graders.

Age appropriate for explaining ASD
I was initially thrown off by the the first passage “some say ..I have a disability…but I have gifts.” Once past that I like the way that Zac explains some of his stimming behaviors. It touches on salient issues such as fairness and why one child on the spectrum may seemingly be treated differently than a sibling, but cared for and loved equally.

Wonderful, easy to understand
We purchased this book shortly after our little boy was diagnosed with ASD. This book is wonderfully written and easy to understand for small children who are just learning about Autism.
