I'm a heavy wine drinker for over 30 years and have tried many corkscrews, but this one is the best by far. It's made of solid steel and well built. The screw isn't just a pig-tail, which often breaks, but it's a solid shaft with flanges on it, which is easy to center in a cork and very solid. In addition, the part that meets the neck of the bottle is exactly the right size, unlike some that are too big and tend to slip down over the neck of the bottle, rendering the device useless. This corkscrew is worth every penny, and makes extraction of even the most stubborn corks easy. I love it, and the bottle cap opener in the handle also works excellently and is a nice bonus.

I purchased this corkscrew because it looked like it was of good quality. When it was delivered, it still looked like it was good quality because of the size and weight. However, the first time I used it, the screw part cracked right off and was stuck in the cork! It is useless now, so don't waste your money on this one.

So, you need to open a bottle of wine and you're looking for something that's moderately priced, well built and will get the job done without failing a month down the road. Enter operation Corkscrew! I like you was on that same path. Here are my findings. --------------------- *Shipping Came on time, but not early, and was intact without damage. *Product pros It's solid metal, Feels like it's bomb proof, has a good weight to it, and is a fair price. *Product cons There is play between the arms and the base and it rattles, plastic inside the neck may prevent larger bottles from fitting, but can be removed with a knife if truly needed. Grand summery ~ It's a fair price, built solid like a tank, virtually all steel, rattles slightly; hey I'm a military man I gotta count that haha, will take abuse, and will most likely be the last corkscrew you ever need to buy. ---- Overall I really recommend this product, if your bottle's too big, rip off the rubber in the neck of the corkscrew, it's built solid, tough, and has just the right amount of style for it to feel right in almost any setting. One start off because of the rattle, don't hate on the review because of that haha, it's just flat out honesty. Just like with a knife I'd hate blade play, the same goes with anything, I like fluid mechanics and good engineering, with that said though, I still highly recommended this thing, it should last a lifetime.

My daughter called and asked if I had a corkscrew as her husband had broken theirs and before she bought a new one, she wanted to see if I had a spare. She wanted the butterfly type. I didn't have one so my first choice to look for something was Amazon.com. I found this one that had good ratings so I bought it and had it shipped directly to her house. She was very happy with this particular corkscrew and so was her husband. She said it was well made, solid, and the gears meshed well. Everything is metal with no plastic parts. It works perfectly. She said it feels like it will last a long time - not like her previous one that was of poor quality and one of the gears cracked. So, even though I have not used it myself, I am going by her comments and she is pretty picky. She is happy which makes me happy and glad to give 5-stars.

Nice quality...until the head snapped off

Unlike many here, I do not care for this corkscrew and am currently using another one I have had for some time. I do not like this product because it will only extract the cork halfway, and then -- because the shank is thick and too short -- the cork expands and is difficult to extract. Otherwise, it seems to be reasonably well made. If you want to contact me, I will gladly sell you the thing at a 50% discount if you pay the shipping!

I bought this at the same time as WMF Clever and More Black and Stainless Corkscrew, Winged Style , to test them out, and I like this one better (I'll have to look, it might be a little cheaper too). Works great and no pinching. For some reason with the WMF one, I get pinched a LOT while using it, and there's is something about the angle or something that makes it hard to stay on the bottle while you are trying to twist it in. And i don't have that problem with this one at ALL. Will definitely buy another.

This corkscrew has a too short auger. It works OK on plastic corks, you can strongly pull the cork out. When you try to pull out a real cork, the auger only goes down 1/2 way, and you pull out 1/2 the cork, only to do it again with the remaining cork still in the bottle's neck. Very frustrating and a Waste of money.

Complete garbage. Broke in less than a month.

Very low quality product

Feels solid and well made. However the screw design makes the cork break up as it is thicker than the more common steel wire screw. See side by side comparison. This product is on the left side.
