Review: Sweet and sour - -Sweet and Sour- Review of Maya’s Laws of Love by @thealinakhawaja and @simonandschusterin ✒️📖 Maya Mirza, a Pakistani born in US is getting married to Imtiyaz, a doctor who used to be her classmate. Why is she found that, she has no idea. Her psychiatrist urges her to do something for herself but Maya, like a robot, moves forward with the wedding. There is one catch though. Maya has a shit luck. Her life seems to follow Murphy’s law: everything that can go wrong will go wrong. Enroute Pakistan, she meets Sarfaraz whom she had called a jerk as he had bumped into her and moved forward without an apology. Thanks to Maya’s luck, the flight gets stuck in bad weather and lands in Switzerland where Maya and Sarfaraz are forced into proximity. After some romantic tropes, they gradually feel drawn to each other. Maya’s laws of love is about realising that love is possible. It is about giving yourself a chance and to believe in yourself. It’s about not getting crushed under parental and societal pressure. Maya’s middle class roots have restrained her all her life and it’s heartening to see her stand up for herself. The chapter names are hilarious, highlighting Maya’s terrible luck. But is her luck really bad or is she just giving more attention to all the bad things happening to her?
