Good router, even better customer service
Very good router for the price and 3 year warranty! Worked great for 18 months but had a few technical issues which were resolved swiftly by customer support who sent a replacement upgraded version as was still under warranty. Can't praise them highly enough. Silvia especially

Are you still using a router from your provider? Just please get one of these.
Tenda offers a great price for performance for that particular router. You get a nice solid bandwidth for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Much, much, much more stable software than any Broadband Provider router I've had to deal with in the past. Very easy setup and really solid build overall. For that price I was just expecting it to be better than the standard broadband provider router, however Tenda proved me wrong with an amazing experience overall and exceeded my expectations. Especially my WIFI stability is now great, before my devices like PS5 kept losing the 5Ghz signal, now it's strong and solid. Of course get a router that matches your user-case scenario, however for someone like me, where there are only 2 people using the internet in the house and for gaming this is a perfect solution.

Great unit ( bar SMS issue )
Much improved signal over a USB dongle, to be expected really. Found the unit to be very stable , quite a bit of configuration options if wanted. Currently using built in antennas but ordered a couple of external to try and see if I can squeeze a bit more out of it. Surprised by the negative comments, I spent time finding the best signal area in the home as signal is not brilliant where I Using SMARTY unlimited data £16 month My USB dongle hovered constantly jumping 1-2 bar strength mainly 1 bar. This unit stays solid on 2 bar and currently around 75dBi ( good signal ). Downloads vary depending on load on network but during day stays around 12Mb downstream. Weekend seems to go up to around 21Mb Lots of variables for speed and some people I think don’t actually go out their way to check things. will update if the external antennas improve on this. Update: External Antennas improved dBi to around -71dBi, Signal full bars (excellent) You have to be patient and get the right location and space the antennas correctly around 3 ft apart ( I ordered ones with cables) to allow this. Downloads jumped from approx. 8-10 Mb to over 20Mb.

High performance, but un reliable
Initially the router appeared easy to install and have a high performance. However it soon became apparent that the connections were unreliable, were frequently being lost and proving difficult to reconnect. After extensive troubleshooting I decided to reset it to factory settings and start again. The reset did not seem to be straight forward as the instructions were vague. After the first reset the quick install did not appear to work and the Settings interface did not connect. After a number of attempts to reset the device I came to the conclusion that it was faulty and had return it - I had spent almost a month trying to overcome the problem and I have quite an extensive background in I.T. One problem that was particularly awkward was that the browser settings interface ip address clashed with my Virgin V3 hub settings address and so would not open - I did not want to mess with the v3 hub as this was not the problem. I have now purchased a TP-Link Archer AX23 router and this automatically identified the clash of the 'Settings browser' ip addresses and reallocated its own ip address so that it could be used - all in all this seems to be a much better router so far, although it was a little more expensive.

Overall good 4G basic Router. Wifi Only 2.4GHz. External Antennas Worth Looking At
The first thing to do is have a stable test environment, where you can repeat tests. Also ensure that the 4G router is correctly configured for external antennas. 1) First test was to find a repeatable position, where reflections are minimal to movements made in the room. 2) Go into the router configuration and enable ONLY External Antennas. Do NOT set to Auto, as both internal/external antennas could be enabled or the router could keep switching between them. 3) When fitting antennas, ensure the small SMA coax connector is done up tight and secure. Even slightly loose could mean poor RF connection. 4) In the router settings, find a signal strength reading. around -70 dBm is excellent, higher the value the worse the signal strength 5) Repeat tests more than once - also remembering that the signal strength indicator can take a few seconds or more, to update. It is not an instant real-time reading. 6) Depending on the router, you may need to reboot to initialise the antenna configuration changes. Based on this, I then completed a number of tests using the internal and external antennas. The router was kept in the same position. Internal (typical; -79 dBm Good) External Paddle type (typical: -69 dBm Excellent) External Patch LTE Antenna with RG174 coax (typical: -76 dBm Good) The paddle and patch antenna is directional. Moving them slightly can make a difference. Also rotating from the upright position can also improve, or not, the signal - due to polarisation changes. When using the paddle type antennas, these will make direct RF connection to the wireless in the router. The Patch antennas which typically have a cable using RG174 coax, may well offer, or advertise, high gain but you MUST remember that the coax will be lossy and in fact, you could easily lose 3-6dB due to coax losses. NB. The advertised '35dBi SMA 4G LTE Antenna, SMA Antenna Indoor Network Antenna with Dual Mimo SMA Male Connectors', performed appallingly, as seen above. Finally, depending on where you are sited, signal reflections do exist and sometimes pointing the antennas in a odd angle can provide surprising results. When testing in the hotel, I had a better signal tucked in the rear corner of the room, than by the window. Conclusion, direct Paddle antennas provided the best overall performance. Hope you found this of use.
