Are these pwm? are these pwm when being used with the separate $25 tt sync controller?

With the included controller they are PWM, software controlled, via the maximum temperature sensor on your motherboard using HWiNFO32 to get the values. There are currently no customization on which sensors to use nor can the ramp up be modified from default. PWN can also be disabled and a static value set if you would like. If you purchase the tt sync controller, and your motherboard supports it, then these become PWM controlled via your motherboard using whatever options your particular motherboard has. The TT software will no longer be used at all. I have these fans, the sync controller, and a Aorus Z370 Gaming 7 and couldn't be happier. Much better than using the included controller and software!

No, you need the controller. Its connector is proprietary to thermaltake

The fans themselves are good. The controllers are complete trash. More often than not, they refuse to register on the USB bus, so you have no fan speed or RGB control. Your only options at that point are to restart the PC until the controller decides it wants to work, or reach into the PC, unplug the USB cable, then reconnect it manually to force the controller(s) to register. I have two sets. I was going to buy a third. At this point, I'm tired of having to monkey around with them almost every time I start the PC, so I'm going to replace them with a different brand. Thermaltake used to make really good fans. I've been using their products since 2006. Their refusal to fix their crappy fan controllers has put them at the bottom of my list.

So all fans connect to the hub. Do they all need seperate power or are they powered by the hub? If so what are they powered by? Thanks

The fans get their power via the controller which can be powered from an additional controller with the provided jumper or connected directly to a fan connection point on your motherboard. There are You Tube videos that go in to detail on setup.

Compatibility

I knew this controller wouldn't allow use of the thermaltake software, relying on your motherboard control, but it does work and fan curves can be set in bios. I just wish my original controller hadn't broken but it does an adequate job and all 4 of my ringtrio fans are now helping cool my power hungry beast!

El controlador funciona bastante bien, lo uso para controlar 4 riing quad con la placa base y va de maravilla. Sólo puedes usar ventiladores de Thermaltake, ya que son envidiosos y utilizan conector propio (usb 2.0 de 9 pines) Este controlador no es posible utilizarlo con el software de Thermaltake. Hay gran cantidad de ventiladores de thermaltake que puedes utilizar con este controlador. 9 riing plus. 5 riing trio, riing quad. 6 swafan. 5 toughfan. Para ser un controlador dependiente de la motherboard es algo caro, pero teniendo en cuenta la complejidad de hacer un adaptador para poder hacer funcionar los ventiladores ( que si se puede) es fácil optar por este. Tambien se puede conectar toda la serie Pacific RGB, que es los accesorios de refrigeración custom Thermaltake.

This worked great for me. You do have to make sure you plug it in correctly, (5v+ to the little arrow.) Aside from that restarted a couple of time to allow the firmware to correct itself with the controller. Haven't had a single issue since. Not sure what everybody is on about. Was relatively painless and looks great. The software can be a little touch and go. But it seems the latest version (2.5) has solved a lot or past issues. Would buy again.

The hub is easy to install and actually works with other Thermaltake products. Particularly my Themaltake PSU. I would buy this hub again!
