This is an interesting practice tool that simply does one thing and does it well - it will help you develop a consistent distance in your putting strokes. I already had a basic cutting green practice setup in my basement, the standard little practice stripes don't really help you practice hitting an accurate distance. This device is there to fill that gap! Basically, you line up and put the ball toward the machine, hitting the ball hard enough that it actually bounces off the rubber bumper on the side of the machine. The laser eye measures the ball speed, and tells you the distance that pump would have gone on a flat green. You can also make an adjustment for the "speed"of the green to adjust your practice for local playing conditions. This too also includes a few games that essentially involve trying to put a shot that's within 2 ft of a target distance. The games are fun challenge. Ultimately I found this tool to be very useful. It's not going to help me practice for compensating for Hilly greens, but it will absolutely help me work on dialing in my distance! That seems to be not only well made, but very well thought out. Obviously it's being sold a bit of a premium price. However, I think the fourth the right person is still provides a great value

No clue how or why anyone thinks this is worth the money or a useful golf training aide

I find this a good aid to get a feel for distance while putting, helping to get a feel for the ball. Obviously it won't allow for changes in the lie of the slope or contour of a physical green. But for people trying to improve the 'feel' of the ball while putting, I personally think is is very good.
