Superb
Much better than Silver Spoon rubbish, which is produced from sugar beet. Pure Cane sugar, excellent value for money and the size is good. This is how sugar has always tasted to me and my elder siblings and parents, pure sugar, the texture is also right. Not sure when the market got flooded by beet sugar, but that stuff is horrible.

the best
If happiness had a texture, it would probably be Tate & Lyle Fairtrade Granulated Sugar. This 500g bag is basically tiny edible diamonds that make tea taste like it’s finally living up to its potential. One spoonful and suddenly you’re Mary Poppins floating over rooftops. The granules are perfectly sized—no weird clumps, no sugar boulders, just smooth, reliable sweetness. It pours like a dream. Honestly, if Olympic sugar‑pouring were a sport, this bag would take gold. And because it’s Fairtrade, you get that warm, fuzzy “I’m a good person” feeling every time you bake a cake or sweeten your coffee. It’s like doing charity work, but with dessert. In short: it’s sugar. But it’s excellent sugar. The kind that makes you wonder why you ever settled for anything less sweet, less ethical, or less dramatically pourable.

Good everyday sugar for tea and baking
I use this mostly for normal kitchen jobs like sweetening tea, making simple bakes, and the odd batch of biscuits, so it has gone through a fair bit of everyday use rather than just sitting in the cupboard looking worthy. It is just a standard bag of granulated sugar, but it is a good reliable one. The grains are even, it pours cleanly, and it dissolves well in hot drinks without leaving that gritty bit at the bottom if you give it a proper stir. I have also used it in sponge cakes and it has behaved exactly as it should. I also like that it is Fairtrade, which makes it feel like a slightly better choice when I am buying a cupboard staple anyway. The only reason I would not call it perfect is the packaging. The paper bag is fine until you open it, then it becomes one of those things that never seems to sit neatly again unless you decant it into a jar. Apart from that, it is a solid kitchen basic that does the job well and is easy to buy again without much thought.
