NOW Foods Solutions, Certified Organic Shea Butter, Moisturizer For Rough And Dry Skin, 7-Ounce

Cannot believe how hard it was to find a 100% shae butter product with no added water or scent. Needed a moisturizer that works for paraffin wax dips and this is perfect. It does feel a little gritty on cold days (I am talking it was 16 degrees below zero and pretty chilly in our house), but it smooths out with body heat and some extra effort to rub it into the skin. Very happy and now know I can order a full-sized product for daily use.

I have been in search for a shea butter that does not have the traditional strong "nutty" scent; that's organic; that absorbs into the skin easily and effectively; and that does not irritate my face when used as a moisturizer. This product meets all requirements! I cannot tell you how many brands I have suffered in search for the right one. I have very sensitive skin so it's difficult for me to find even natural butters that I can use on my face that do not cause irritation. Every brand I've tried that claims to be organic with no added ingredients other than pure raw organic shea butter has caused my face to react negatively. But NOT this brand. The NOW Solutions, Certified Organic Shea Butter has virtually no scent; although yes, it is grainy to the touch, it melts like butter when rubbed onto the skin; I experienced no irritation in the evening when I applied it right before bedtime; and it's incredibly moisturizing. Is it expensive? Somewhat. Compared to other brands on the market, this one can be expensive. However, considering the frustrating process I have endured to find this gem, the quality is worth the cost. Hopefully the price will decrease in time or another brand will step up and produce a better or equal product at a more competitive price. But, honestly, I'm no longer searching. Just a side note, due to the sensitive nature of my skin, I only apply this once a day on my face and after every shower on the rest of my body.

I have an autoimmune disease that attacks moisture producing glands in the body. One of the symptoms is unbelievably dry skin. I am also very sensitive to chemicals on or in my body. I've found that single ingredient, clean moisturizers work best for my skin. I have bought other types of organic shea butter but they aren't as easy to apply as this stuff. This is actually somewhat soft. The consistency is similar to ice cream but grittier. I put a glob in my palm and let it melt some before I apply it but even if it's still a bit gritty, just keep rubbing it in. It will melt down the grittier parts of the butter. Shea butter is a fantastic moisturizer and stays on. It can feel a bit greasy but absorbs quickly while still eaving a barrier on the skin. I can actually put it on my face at night and wake up with moisturized skin instead of dry and tight skin. Love that this product is white instead of the more typical shea butters which are yellow. It is essentially odorless with maybe the slightest hint of a natural scent. If you have super dry skin like on your elbows and feet you will love this stuff. I'm a new fan and will be ordering more in the future.

The reviews about high granularity are true - I got 2 jars and both had some level of granules of shea. However, this did not present problems for making body butter after melting the shea in a double boiler and allowing it to fully cool in the fridge before whipping it with the rest of the ingredients (cocoa butter, apricot kernel oil, corn starch, etc.). The shea was completely smooth after it came back to room temp. This makes it quite cheap for a luxurious and natural body butter, I don't think I'll ever go back to store-bought lotion. The key is not adding ingredients with water to the butter, since that is a breeding ground for bacteria and would require preservatives. However, body butter has no water and so lasts a long time; it lasts longer also if you add some vitamin E oil. The second key is adding oils that absorb quickly (not coconut oil!) and perhaps a starch like cornstarch or arrowroot powder - this gives the butter a much more matte appearance on the skin, instead of the really greasy DIY look. Also, it has almost no scent. Apparently shea usually has a strong and somewhat unpleasant scent, so this probably means it was refined to an extent and not as potent as other brands, but this is one of the only organic brands I found, so I decided to stick to it. Ultimately I did not have to scent my body butter with (expensive) essential oils because they had a very faint cocoa smell from the cocoa butter. Next I'd like to make DIY eye cream with shea, glycerin, vitamin E oil, and rosehip or seabuckthorn oil... UPDATE: the price went up by more than $2 since Dec 2021 for the 7oz jar, too bad.

This pure, organic shea butter is a Godsend for me. All my life I’ve suffered from dry skin. Heels and hands that cracked and bled sometimes. I finally found this emollient, yes, not cream or lotion, and I haven’t had a cracked heel in years. It is VERY thick. I take a small amount, about dime-sized, and warm it in my hands until it melts. I then smooth it on my feet, hands and anywhere I’ve got dry skin. It’s inexpensive and has no discernible fragrance. It is white and is clear when it melts. Sometimes when I get a large jar the butter is not totally homogenized, it’s grainy. Still good, I warm it in the microwave until it melts a little. I’ve noticed that when I purchase these smaller jars the butter’s always smooth. I like that. It takes a long time to dry on my skin, I typically use it after I bathe and put on socks so it doesn’t get on the floor, etc. If your work requires a lot of hand washing, if you have chronically dry skin this might work for you.

I have super sensitive skin. Basically all lotion formulations make it instantly red and itchy. My cuticles were a mess and my knuckles and fingertips cracked all the time. It took a few months, but rubbing this in every night before bed and wearing white cotton gloves over - my hands are now so beautiful, soft and pain free. The nails and cuticles super healthy. Thank goodness!

This batch was very grainy for some reason - not like in the past. Makes it harder to use.

I love this Shea Butter, once warmed in my palms, it is creamy and leaves my skin supersoft. No unpleasant smell like other brands - and organic.
