Very easy to install and setup. Has ability to expand and add additional sensors at any time.
Got this alarm sysem so I can setup monitoring with a no contact monitoring company. Did some research online and I decided on this system since there was a great series of instruction videos with Alarm Grid. I also look around at others but the videos really gave the me confidence to do the installation myself. Sure am glad that I finally pull the trigger cause there was a breakin in the neighborhood the day before the package arrived. Got me out of the chair and get the installation quickly. The longest part of the installation was trying to decide where to put the motion detector. After that, it was very ease. Each sensor came with double sided sticky tape so you can put it just about any where. Also, you should note that the red light on the motion detector only turns on in the first 5 minutes. After that, it automatically stop the red light from flashing to conserve battery. I though it was defective because the light stopped working. All the other part of the install was very straight forward. The manual was well done but I strongly recommend you look up Alarm Grid on Youtube. They have very detailed intruction videos to help you set this up from begining to end.You can also add additional sensors to the system at any time. I ordered 3 additional 5816 door/windows sensors and added them without any issues. Got 5186 because the kit came with it which was a newbie mistake. If I were to do it over, I will get the 5811 or the 5820L slim sensors for windows. The 5816s are a bit too bulky and I couldn't mount them to the best location on my window.Overall, I am still very happy with my purchase. Setup was easy and fast. Now I just wish that I never need to see it in action.p.s. The kit does not come with a power cable but the seller from Alarm liquidator included one in the packaging. Thanks!

Good product, not easy to program.
Works good but complicated to install, especially being that it's wireless. Had to call an alarm company to come and program it. Otherwise I would have given it 5 starts.

Know Bug in all lynx systems with WIFI which renders alarm useless :(
This system seems nice; however, there is a major flaw when using the WIFI module. When, and not if, you reboot the system this device gets into a constant reboot cycle that it can not recover from. The only fix is to remove the WIFI module and add a cellular module then wipe the configuration. Other wise you end up like me....never being able to use the wifi module again. The WIFI module has to be removed permanently if you do not want to buy a cellular module...which you do not need. This has been a know issue since the Lynx system was created. However, it has been allowed to continue to hurt customers of the Honeywell systems without any fix from Honeywell. I highly recommend you purchase another vendors product so you do not have an alarm system that is broken for days or weeks.

The "instructions" are a very long list of codes and ...
The "instructions" are a very long list of codes and options. However, if you are not a security expert who understands the acronyms, it's just so much gibberish. We followed the instructions, rebooted, followed the instructions, rebooted, etc., etc., etc. We cannot get either the motion sensor or the keyfob to work. Error codes are listed, but there are no instructions for resolution. There are no troubleshooting tips. If you buy this system, make sure you know a professional who can install it.

Good system but somewhat complex compared to more modern alternatives
It's a nice system but the accessories can easily add up. What I like about is the sleek digital screen. This particular "kit" came with a few sensors, motion detector and wifi module. Installing the modules are easy, just pop it open and insert the chips. Programming the unit wasn't hard but also wasn't the easiest thing in the world to do. You'll have to pick up some light gauge wire at your local hardware store. I ended up fishing it behind the wall and out to the socket for a seamless install. This is a good system that compares to what pros would use for a wireless unit. It has some limitations that wired systems won't. When we sold our house we left it as it was part of the contract. Our next home we used Simplisafe2 Wireless Home Security System 8-piece Plus Package which was a much simpler install and works for us just as well.

Great do it yourself system
Great do it yourself system. I have setup several complex Honeywell systems and this is a piece of cake. The system has been running for 3 months without a problem at my home in Italy. I used a step down converter for the power supply. The dialer and weather display work correctly but the time is off as the ECT zone is not an option. To use the camera option, you need to purchase Honeywell cameras as it does not seem to recognize any other brand. To use the GSM dialer, you need to subscribe to an alarm monitoring service. I looked on the net and found it was about $10 a month on average. Without an alarm serivce to activate the GSM dialer, the Total Connect software from Honeywell is useless. The WiFi is very uselful if you want to monitor and control the system from a tablet via Lynx Connect. It only works over your local lan. I have not used the Z wave option yet but will get to it a few weeks.

Not for non-technical novices, but this is a great home security system!
This kit is not for everyone. It is complicated and takes time to setup. If you are a techie and DIY die hard, you will love doing it yourself. The only issue I've had is that Honeywell is apparently, my opinion, trying to shield themselves from novices and do not provide easy instructions. They want to train "middle men" and that drives up your cost. Also, there is a Windows WIFI software product called Compass that Honeywell will not let me download; it is supposed to provide a new level of control for users through a computer. Nevertheless, I have everything up and running and the system does exactly what it advertises. If Honeywell would be more kind to DIY purchasers, I'd give it a 5 star rating. But, a DIY techie never gives in, so if you are one of those, and want a great home security system without forced $$$ monitoring built-in, go for it!
