Gran Turismo: Based On A True Story (Limited UHD with Alternate Gold Cover) (Steelbook) [Blu-ray]

This is a well-written, very well-made movie -- An original, true story of a young racing-simulator racer who virtually races his way into a contest to become an actual racer for Nissan. The cast, the story, the dialogue, and the pace of the movie are all very good. There is drama, comedy, triumph, tragedy, self-discovery, young love..., all against the backdrop of cinematographically awesome racing sequences, and cool graphics that add to the story and texture of the film. David Harbour was great as the Chief Engineer and racing coach, as well as Orlando Bloom as the originator of the contest, and Archie Madekwe as the young racer Jann Mardenborough, along with many other good actors as well.I really liked that the movie was a mighty crescendo of action, tension and endeavor through the several stages of the movie - The initial simulator contest, the actual racing contest, achieving a racing license, all towards the the final push to "make it to the podium". While I'm sure some artistic license was taken in the screenplay, at a minimum this movie is a beautifully-done, engrossing, reality-based movie with no "agenda", other than to tell the stories of the people involved in creating and supporting the entire endeavor, and of a young man pursuing his dream to become a racing car driver.Thanks to Director Neill Blomkamp for making such a great movie, when there is so much garbage passing for movies these days.Enjoy, cheers!

Dear Gentle Reader,Before I begin, I want to say that there are no spoilers in my review. Your experience watching a movie is subjective so I will only tell you, how I felt about the movie in general. Let's now begin to tell you that I do not like video gaming or gamers - I actually despise and do not respect it. I do not like race cars - I find the sport boring. So, why would I watch this movie? Honestly, I don't know. Maybe its because I have a secret love-crush for "Hopper" but even still he would not be able to save this movie if it sucked.But it didn't. It was honestly done very well, kept the high engagement, and just an overall fun energetic movie. It was easy to connect with the characters, their trials and tribulations. And its a fascinating story on actual events of a person's extraordinary journey. Sure, there are some cheesy parts that were not necessary but overall, a good movie, very easy to like, and I would definitely watch it again.Yours Truly,LLRI

A friend insisted I watch this. I'm so glad he did. I was not expecting something this good. The story is compelling. I was amazed at how clean this film is - minimal foul language, no illicit sex, no drugs, a little teenage drinking. It was a delight to see such restraint in a modern film. I'll say no more except that I can't recommend it more highly.

This is a great movie that inspires countless lives

My whole family absolutely loved this video! It was based on a true story, which was done extremely well and had you captivated the whole time. Our eldest son had read about this true story as it was happening back around 2012. He filled us in on the back story before we ever saw the movie so we were able to understand a little bit more about it. Yes there were some writer's privileges taken, but you have to remember that it was "based" on a true story.They do a great job of keeping the pace going, they give you just enough back story for it to make sense but not too much where it dragged. When they are going over his training and competing days, our son told us that they had blended it to move quickly but it was actually over a couple of years. The studio took the high points of the driver's life to just give you enough to be able to keep up with the story.The characters were well developed in the story, but it took us seeing it twice to start connecting the dots with all of them. Our son and my husband both bought the movie because it is a movie that you can watch over and over again and not tire of it. It had a story line, a plot, great character development and tons of action! I highly recommend this movie!

Great movie if your into cars and racing.

Possibly the best movie of the millennium. Good for ages 5 to 105, and families of one to one hundred. Based on a true story. Exciting movie with great scenery and sound, and music. Fresh faces and good acting. Marvelous modern race car cinematography. Great expose of the video gaming state of the art. Great coming of age theme. Great family dynamics story. Great adversity management stories. Endearing characters. Great presentation of various race venues. Watch in confidence, highly recommend.
