No idea. This is a quite small bottle though. Ours was perfectly proportioned.

What is the liquid that the ferrofluid is suspended in?

The liquid usually used to host ferrofluid is either water or an organic solvent like kerosene. The kit doesn't show what particular carrier fluid this maker used, but if it is kerosene - the bottle doesn't smell, the glass is super thick and seem well-made and packaged in a very nice case which is also pretty durable. I bought it for my 8 year old who loves it and has taken it to school to show his friends and teacher - no issues

No. We've had absolutely no issues with ours. We also took a risk and shipped it at a time of the year in which the temperature could've dropped below the specified range. Still no issues. Shipping took longer than expected. FYI unless you are very persistent, you can not open this bottle.
