Good Value NVG Goggles — But Not True ‘Binoculars’ and Could Be Improved
Overall, I’m very pleased with the Nightfox Swift 2 NVG goggles. I wanted an inexpensive night-vision device with a replaceable battery, and the two-year warranty is excellent. Product support has also been very responsive. One thing that should be clarified on the product page: this is not a true binocular device. It uses a single lens and sensor that projects an image onto an internal screen, which both eyes view simultaneously. In optical terms, this is closer to a bi-ocular display than a binocular. Both eyes see the same image, so you do not get true stereoscopic depth perception. Some reviewers note that IR illumination creates shadows that aid depth perception. That’s partly true, and you also get some depth cues when moving your head, but it’s still not the same as true binocular vision. Another point that isn’t clearly explained in the product literature is the vision requirement. The screen is only a few inches from your eyes. If you’re young or naturally near-sighted, you’ll probably see the display clearly. But if you’re farsighted or need reading glasses (have presbyopia), you may need corrective lenses to focus on the screen. I’m 80 and need about +2.5 diopters for reading. When I tried my wife’s +2.0 reading glasses under the eye shield, the image became much sharper. I have a pair of +2.5 Eyekepper reading glasses on order that measure about 138 mm wide and 50 mm tall, which appear small enough to fit inside the eye shield. Anyone who normally uses reading glasses should keep this in mind when buying a device with a display this close to the eyes. Nightfox might consider offering an optional face shield or insert designed to accommodate reading glasses or corrective lenses, since many users of night-vision devices are older and may need close-focus correction to view the screen clearly. The Swift 2 comes with a good headband and shoulder strap. However, the eyelets used to attach the shoulder strap could be redesigned. The bend angle makes it very difficult to thread the strap through. Without a very thin pair of strong forceps, it would have been quite frustrating. Some reviewers also mention that the goggles bounce on the hinge pin that connects them to the headband and swing away from your face when you look down. That is true, but there is an easy workaround. If you place the shoulder strap around your neck and pull both strap ends together behind your neck, you can clip them together (I used a large binder clip). This pulls the goggles firmly against your face and eliminates both problems. Nightfox could probably incorporate a simple strap tension feature to accomplish the same thing. One focusing tip: at 1× magnification, it can be difficult to judge the best focus. I found it helpful to tap the Zoom button to switch briefly to 3×, adjust focus there, and then switch back to 1×. Finally, the carrying case could also be improved. With the headband attached to the goggles, the case cannot be closed, so the headband must be removed. The hinge mounting bracket could also be removed, but repeatedly removing and reinstalling the small knurled screw that bolts it to the goggles doesn’t seem like a good long-term solution. I chose to leave the bracket attached, but that means the case has to be forced slightly to close around it. A slightly taller case with a designated place to store the headband in the lid netting—without pressing the power button—would solve this problem nicely. Overall, despite these minor issues, I’m very happy with the Swift 2 and think it offers excellent value for the price.

A fantastic and affordable entry into the night vision world
I purchased this after wanting to get into night vision solutions. After combing through the reviews and recommendations of the comments on Amazon as well as YouTube channels I decided to try this product out. My main goal was to use these goggles to be able to walk to and from Deer stands or blinds in early morning or evening so I don't give myself away using flashlights. The limited field of view takes some getting used to as well as the refresh rate of the sensor but it is entirely doable to move around in the dark while walking at a brisk pace. I will say after trying it out this is NOT something you'd want to use moving through woods. I constantly found myself running into hanging vines or stumbling on uneven ground. If you have to move through woods, take it slow and use trees for bracers and absolutely turn on the infrared lights so you can cast shadows and get a decent depth of field. Moving on open terrain that is flat is ideal and easy to do and even using the Lunarlight mode (no IR light given off) allows one to traverse well without using lights. Another plus was when I received my unit it had a fully charged battery and between me using it as a tester in and around my house as well as a walk back in the dark after some still deer hunting in an evening hunt the battery is still full or at least it shows full on the HUD icon. I can not wait to use this device even further but for now I am loving it! 5/5 for entry level night vision!

Focus is issue
Ir works well. Can see in dark has various backlight ir levels . Can work through windows car windshield. Fits well to head . However when i use it as head held having it fit to my eyes it becomes super difficult to focus and use it for prolonged time. It is like you are trying to focus your eye to see something on your nose. I couldn't use it for more than a minute and had to remove it and use it like a binocular that i put front of my eye 2-4 inch away. I couldnt focus my eye with head setup.I have tried to use "focus" option but it made no help. Seems it just changes the clarity of the screen inside of it rather than giving you a optical path to help your eye to focus like in classic binoculars. I have 0 to 0 prescribed eyes. Which means at last optometric test i had ,my eyes were fully correct. And yet it was difficult for me to focus on it for long time. I am thinking to return it. Build is rugged and looks good ,does not feel like its going to break at first drop but i wanted to be able to use it more than hour without burning out my eye focus. Seems designed more like a night binocular than goggles

Nice inexpensive unit
Keep in mind I am reviewing this a day after receiving it in the mail. I took a chance on the night fox swift due to it's great price and the singular review on YouTube that seemed slightly like an ad. Here is what I think. This unit is dependent on an ir source (one is provided inside it), by that I mean I don't believe these can be low signature night vision using ambient light only. The picture quality within it's range was great considering the cost. Speaking of it's effective range I was able to see clearly within 70 paces (as advertised), I feel this could be extended with an additional ir source. The controls were easy to manipulate and the headband worked much better than I expected and the unit is extremely light. After some getting used to I was able to walk through fields checking cattle, play ball with my dog and even jog a few yards (bouncy and a bit laggy on the jog). The only cons that I noticed were as follows: 1. small screen with odd zoom and narrow field of vision means you will have to re-learn moving and will not have any depth perception and may have problems seeing it if you are far sighted 2. everything outside of ir range is not visible meaning if you are using it to check live stock you will probably need a strong ir source to reach in the field. In conclusion I feel like the nightfox swift is well worth the money and I am looking forward to using their product more.
