Performs beyond its price
I've tried pretty much all the ultra-fast 35mm lenses on my Fuji system. Most of them have been quite good, especially when stopped down to f/2.8 or f/4, but my copy of Brightin Star 50mm/0.95 is a cut above the rest. Even wide open, performance is surprising, showing good center sharpness. There's a slight contrast reduction and a bit of haloing at f/0.95, always to be expected with an ultra-fast lens, but it is still quite useable, and actually offers a very pleasing, vintage look to photos. By f/2, it's very sharp in the center, with sharpness falling off towards the edges of the frame. Out of focus areas are nicely rendered with smooth transitions, and the bokeh is lovely. Solid 5 stars for both performance and value. If I could, I'd give it a sixth star because it has a click-stop aperture ring, which I very much appreciate.

Splendid
Totally Surprised! This manual focus lens will take you places you never imagined. Cost is incredibly inexpensive. A special quality when shot wide open. Not exactly soft, more like stunningly mellow. Well built. Rather small but contains everything you need.

Decent for the price...
It is a decent lens for the price, it just wasn't great for me. I am used to manually focusing lenses on my film camera, but using this with my Fujifilm, I just really struggled to nail focus. Almost every one of my images were slightly soft. This is possibly more to do with the camera's way of seeing what is in focus. In the end, I decided to return this.

absolutely CRAZY and loving it!
This lens is unbelievable! Back in the late '60's the first camera I bought was a fixed lens Canon rangefinder that I sold it to buy a used Leica 3F. That Leica was a disaster... I couldn't even load the film successfully. I finally sold it and bought a used Nikon F that was my only camera through art school and it was reliable and almost bullet proof. Over many decades I used many different camera formats through my years of photography- products, portraits and travel- and currently use only Fujifilm X-Pro and XT. When I saw the Brighten Star 35mm f/0.95 lens for $200 I was expecting it to be a piece of cr*p but I was too curious not to order one... and wasn't I surprised! It is a solid, well designed, well machined lens that has the functional attributes of the $13,295.00 Leica 50mm f/0.95 minus the Aspherical Element ( 35mm ASPC is the equivalent of 50mm 35MM).

Nice build
Compact lens with an all metal build. The aperature ring has a nice clickly feeling and focus ring is smooth. I am using it on my fujifilm x-t30 gen 1.

Excellent lens
It is a great lens, but be careful about your sensor size! a 40MP sensor (X-H2) will expose each and every flaw this lens has, though (not many) - which is why i returned mine. On a smaller 24MP sensor (X-T 1,2,3 etc) it will be an AMAZING lens. Great build quality, very sturdy, smooth focus, but wish the aperture ring was a bit more "clicky" as it can be easy to move it.

My favorite manual focus lens
I love this lens. The insanely shallow bokeh when the aperture is fully open is so pleasing to the eye, and I thought I would miss autofocus, but I don't. Once you get the hang of it, you can manually dial in your focus pretty quickly.

Looking for a manual lens that will bring you the feeling of using that film camera your pockets can’t afford anymore? Looking for a lens to add to your fujifilm camera that will enhance your user experience? Feel like slowing down and take your time to compose beautiful images? Well welcome to the Brightin Star 35 mm f 0.95 It’s only been a few days with this lens (and this camera) and I can adamantly say I know I won’t grow tired of using it. There is a skill curve with this manual focus if you’re looking to take images quickly, or your subject is at a large distance and you want to be at the most open aperture of .95. But to me, I’ve been viewing that as an epic challenge, it’s caused me to think differently and really go out and practice often. I was looking for a camera and lens that I would feel excited by, I researched through the other affordable f .95 lenses and landed here for the clickable aperture, the sharpness you can achieve when you get it right, and it’s travel size. I feel like a kid again, taking my camera out at every single thing that excites me. As a professional photographer, being able to play often is also training grounds for improving when I have to deliver on shoots the next time. I probably wouldn’t use this lens for event photography or anything that requires a fast pace. But definitely portraiture and studio work. But I really enjoy feeling like I’m not limited by a film camera but can still attain that timeless feel whenever I want to pull this dude out. My new best friend.
