Excellent starter kit and easy to expand
This is a great starter setup for anyone looking to get into the Ring Alarm system. Installation is straightforward, everything pairs easily in the app, and it’s been reliable since day one. One of the biggest positives is how expandable the system is. You can easily add extra sensors, cameras and accessories as needed. I would strongly recommend adding the external siren as well – the base unit alone isn’t loud enough to alert neighbours, and the outdoor siren makes a big difference. I’d also recommend signing up to the Ring Protect plan, as it adds better monitoring and makes the system feel more complete. Overall, a solid, user-friendly alarm system that does exactly what you want it to do.

Great device
I was a bit dubious at first but I am so glad I got this! It's honestly a brilliant wee set up and so easy to do on your phone. I got the 5 piece and the best thing about it (that for some reason they don't use as a selling point) is that you can actually arm the system when you are at home. So if you put the contact sensors on the main door/windows and do the home arm setting, it means the motion sensors aren't activated by you walking about, but gives you peace of mind that if anything untoward was to happen, like some scum trying to get in in the middle of the night, the alarm would trigger. This is brilliant for people living alone and I don't know why they don't advertise this feature more than they do. I like that you can personalise all the settings for the various devices and for the price it is so good and the quality is good as well. The pieces are unobtrusive and look nice wherever you decide to put them. Great thing is there is no wiring and it will be so easy to take this with me when I move. I also like that I can add pieces in future if I choose. You do need wifi though. I would also say be sure where you want to place the contact sensors because once they are stuck on it is really tough to get them off again if you decide it's the wrong place! You can experiment with how to set it up and read the instructions about the motion and contact sensors properly because you have to put the motions 2.3 metres above the ground etc. So read the handbook properly or it might not work right. Other good thing is you get a month of the full monitoring service free of charge. Obvs they want you to continue paying after the free month ends but I don't think it's a bad deal at all and I think I probably will continue with it. But you don't have to if you don't want it. Lastly I really like the Ring app. It's simple and you can actually arm/disarm the system from the app on your phone instead of manually keying on the keypad, which is really brilliant. Again this is something that they don't really mention anywhere in the selling points but it's a great feature. I know I sound like I work for this company but I really don't. I am just really impressed with how it all ended up working. I think somebody has actually thought this system through logically and I am glad I went for this cause I looked at a few of similar type that were more expensive.

Excellent, easy to fit, easy to use, DIY alarm.
I fitted this alarm three days ago, and have found it to be very straightforward to use, and easy to fit. I purchased it from Amazon with a £90 discount, making it a bargain in my opinion. I would have paid the full price, but would have had to wait until later this year. I bought the basic kit for now, and intend to add more motion sensors and contact sensors later. In setting up the alarm, the base station is set up first. I had issues here. There were two options for setting up the alarm base, and I tried both options but neither worked. After multiple attempts I decided to contact the Ring helpdesk. The advisor was extremely helpful and talked me through the stages. The stages were exactly what I had done previously but this time worked immediately! (That is always embarrasing!) The advisor emailed me so if I had any more issues I would be able to contact him for advice, and it is a good job he did. I expected fitting the contact sensor to be awkward as the frame of the door is close to the wall, but more than the maximum inch. I tried it before fitting and it actually fitted fine and worked with no hassle. The range extender was a doddle to fit. Plug it in, the app soon found it. The motion detector appeared to be just as straightforward, until it the test to ensure it was working. I tested it as requested but when exiting the test mode the app told me it could not communicate with the app. I tried re-testing it, but that didn't help. I attempted to remove the motion sensor from the app but was told it could not communicate with the sensor. I tried removing the batteries to re-set it, but when I put them back in the app said it was still in test mode and when trying to exit test mode it said it could not exit test mode as there was no communication. Having had no success to come out of test mode I emailed the advisor. He made a couple of suggestions, all of which I had done. The sensor is working, according to the app it is detecting motion, but it is stuck in test mode. I am going to have to replace that sensor when I have a bit of spare cash. Disappointing, but hopefully I will have more look with others. Once set up the alarm is easy to use. Each user has their own code for the key pad, but equally the alarm can be set from the app on the smart zone. Exit/entrance delays can be set if the keypad is utilised to set the alarm, so the user can leave the house before the alarm is active. The keypad is re-chargeable, and the alarm base station can survive for 24 hours with no mains power, which is handy if you need to change the location. This is a very easy to install, easy to use, and is highly recommended. The issues were minor, and bar the motion sensor easily rectified. Once I have tried a new motion sensor I will update the review. 04/01/2022 Update to review I have re-tried setting the motion sensor up. On this occasion I was able to remove the motion sensor from the app, and re-install. Upon re-installation it worked prefectly and exited the test mode at the first time of asking. This is an excellent, inexpensive alarm system, that I can add to as time goes on. A basic set up to begin with, that secures the house. Further motion detectors and contact sensors can be added later.

Pleased with the alarm system, lost a star as U.K. doesn’t get full monitoring and limited add ons
After almost a month I’m more than happy with the base station, keypad, multiple door and motion sensors. It’s easy to setup using the ring App and all items seem to be of very good quality, the 2nd generation certainly looks that bit better, so waited for its release. I’d recently purchased the ring Pro 2 doorbell and this can now, after an update, be set to record during alarm events, also the new indoor cam which can also set off its alarm. The reason it lost a star, could have been two, is that I didn’t realise the U.K. product is somewhat deficient when it comes to monitoring when your not at home. In the USA the same monitoring we pay for actual calls the police, fire even medics. In the U.K. they just repeated call you or other phone contacts… … this is a real shame and I hope now an Amazon product set the ring system will improve for the U.K. The App originally had details of loads of safety devices I could add - water leak, smoke and CO2 ‘listeners’, power switches… it was one of the reasons I decided to opt for a large ring doorbell, camera and alarm system. Recent App updates, however, have removed most of these - in fact all itemised non-ring products and now just a ‘Works with Ring’ button. I know for z-wave devices different countries use different frequencies, however, the U.K. is still in Europe and uses the same, as does China and loads of others. I assume the ring products, like WiFi, use the location of where devices are and can then ‘tune’ to that locations frequency? I’ve asked ring support when will the U.K. be able to use the many devices available in the USA and other countries. I’m sure if your ‘Works wire Ring’ partners build them - we will buy them in the U.K… … if anyone gets this far and agrees and has ring devices please contact their support folk and tell them.

The easiest and simple Alarm system that packs a punch.
I have used both wired and Internet alarms in the past. Both have pros and cons. Finally getting fed up with the old wifi one I had I started look around. I saw the Ring 1st Gen and having heard good things about the ring door bell decided to keep an eye on it. In the meantime I purchased the Ring doorbell 4 which is top notch and this reinforced my views around connectivity (it was easy). Whislt watching the 1st Gen i saw that the 2nd Gen was about to land so held out until that launched. Now to say this unit was simple to install is an undrstatement. The hardest part is lining the screws up on the wall to mount (made simple by a template in the box) There is a keyboard and seperate base unit which do not need to be next to each other. Along with the additional sensors in the box. I ordered the 10 piece set. I didnt read the instructions and if like me the only advice I would advocate is one sensor at a time ie do not pull the battery guards out until using it. I can see why it would be confusing to try and set up all the sensors at the same time. The base station connected to the wifi straight away with ease. I then added the Keypad and the booster by scanning a QR code on the units. Once these were set up (follow the prompts on the ring app) I first mounted the front door sensor set it up and named it before moving on to the other door. Rinse and repeat for the windows. The Pirs are just as easy to set up with two or more mounting screws. For those wondering the Pirs are not much larger than the usual ones you see around buildings and in my opinion look a lot neater. Again the window/Door sensors and Pirs are QR coded. Thats it job done. Go back to the app. Set up the alarm code and invite household users to the device you nbow have a fully functioning house alarm that can be armed for the outer doors and windows (No PIRS) for nightime or all armed for when everyone is out. When I first tested the base unit alarm boy was I surprised how loud it was. Its Loud! In a nutshell this unit is worth it. You have complete control over all the functions of the alerm right down to push notifications. Its simple yet very effective. A final tip I would give you all is where and how to mount the sensors. remember they are battery powered so you need to be able to slide them of to do so. if you mount them to flush with a wall door or ceiling you may not be able to slide them off. Give yourself a bit of space. Overall a very good system and I am very happy with it. Next month I think I will drill a hole in the house and mount the external siren with power. As yet I don't have this bit of kit so will update the review when I have done so

So Easy to Install - But Beware Siren Installation Instructions if Hard Wiring.
The product comes beautifully packaged. Instructions were easy to follow and had no issues connecting everything to the Ring Base Station. I had the range extender, a couple of motion detectors and door connectors. All easy to set up using the bar codes and Ring App. I had Ring siren as well and bought the hard wire adaptor for it. This is where you need to be careful. The instructions talk about a + and - wire, but you cannot tell which is which!! We set it up and installed the siren on the wall, tested it, but didnt realise it was working from battery power and not hard wire. So we ended up having to go back up the ladder and swapping the two connecting wires over. Bit of a pain but we got there in the end. Ring need to colour code the wires, or make it easy to see which is which. I thought i had seen in some literature about one of the wires being "rough" onn the outside to differentiate between them, but to me they are both smooth and there is no way of telling which is which. There is a video on YouTube on how to install the siren and the presenter does exactly the same as i did - wish i had seen that first. Also have an indoor camera and a video doorbell, all work great from the App. Well impressed, on the verge of replacing my hard wired cctv cameras with a 3 solar panel camera Ring set up. I am impressed with the quality and easy of use of the Ring System.

Faultless
I purchased the 2nd Gen unit when I moved into a new house late last year, the house did not come with an alarm installed but is in a neighborhood watch area so I purchased it for piece of mind really. I put off installing the alarm for a while because I thought it was going to be difficult however when I got around to it I got it all installed, up and running within 45 mins. (Note. Take your time and only connect each sensor one at a time following the instructions on the app). The sensors simply stick up into the corners of rooms and the contact sensors stick to window or door frames (as long as they are even and not an odd shape). Once installed the system is a doddle to use, the Ring app allows you to arm /disarm the alarm wherever you are and you can also configure which sensors are active or inactive in the 3 different modes of Disarm, Home and Away. If you don't have a smartphone you can arm and disarm the alarm using the keypad only, the only negative point I have about the keypad is that you have to input your 4 digit pin to both arm and disarm the unit, i think it would be far easier if you didn't have to input your 4 digit pin to arm the alarm but obviously you would need it to disarm it (Note to Ring). I have configured my 'Home' mode to monitor the front and back doors only for use whilst I am in bed at night, I find that mode is also helpful when I know I am not going out but I can still move about the house freely without setting the alarm off. Overall the Ring Alarm is an excellent piece of kit and easy to install, it is also flexible allowing you to configure which rooms, doors or windows you want it to monitor. It is more expensive to purchase than a conventional alarm and is highly reliant on the use of WiFi so if you don't have WiFi already in your home then I wouldn't recommend buying it, the Base station has a 24hr backup in the event of power cuts but I had trouble using mine when my WIFI went down for 3 days a few weeks ago. Optional extras can be easily bought and added to your system such as an external alarm with flashing light and external sensors for your gates, sheds or storage units. Included with the alarm is a complimentary 30 day trial use of the Ring Monitoring Scheme which would contact your next of kin should you use the panic button, it can also contact the Police if your alarm is triggered whilst your away but it comes at a price. The basic cost is £8 per month if you want your Next of Kin notified if your alarm triggers whilst your are away and the full monitoring scheme costs more however this is purely optional and you do not need to subscribe if you aren't bothered about it.

Simple replacement to built in alarm, tailored to needs
I got this in the prime day deals, nearly half price. First point of note, wait for prime day when most alexas, ring and other amazon devices usually have a steep discount! I opted for the 5 piece kit and some additional cameras to kick off my security system. I do have a built in alarm in my house, this uses motion detectors in nearly every room and for the door to my garage, but having a dog and a parrot, I don't want to activate it when I go out as it will constantly be set off! With this ring system it's so easy to tailor the elements that are active when I am out and have a different set of sensors active during the night. So it has 3 modes, disabled, home, and away. This is disabled during the day when I am home, then set to home mode when I go to bed, and obviously away when I go out. These modes are what sold me to the system as I originally just wanted the cameras but the privacy concerns of having these save to cloud was putting me off, this is where the modes come in! Disabled - All cameras except the garage are disabled, this even stops the app from allowing you to live view the cameras without going through the settings to enable it's use. Some may find this irritating, I find it a plus, I wanted them disabled due to privacy. Primary entrances can also be set to "chirp" on the alarm when they are triggered, so opening the garage door or front door will play a sound to alert me of this opening, more than I need if I am home. Home - I set this when I go to bed, this can enable select cameras around the home, certain sensors that I then wish to set off the alarm and leave some disabled (I have a dog, he wants to go in the garden during the night etc). Away - Everything is enabled, all cameras are active, I can monitor what my dog is chewing when I go shopping, or have any nefarious activity recorded should that occur. Setup was so simple, I already had a ring doorbell, and adding this to the overall ecosystem went through without a problem, kind of. The only issue I had was when I was adding a new device to the app, it first said wifi couldn't be connected to, so I refreshed the wifi list and hit connect, then it worked. Every item, everytime, I had to refresh the wifi and try again, but second attempt was always flawless so I can't dock points for that. Based on the performance of my ring doorbell I have never once lost connection or had to go through a resetup process (this has been almost 12 months in use now). Another item I had in the box that I haven't actually needed to setup yet is the wifi extender, maybe I have been lucky with the location of each of the cameras and sensors, but nothing has needed it yet in my 3 bedroom house. At least it's there if I experience any issues. There is one thing I take issue with though, and it's not to do with the product itself but the sneaky amazon listing. When I searched for this set, it was £140 in the prime day deal, this was for the 5 piece starter box, however in the options was a 5 piece + camera for the same price. I did select that and get what I think is an amazing deal, but that was easy to miss. For the installation, the only item that needs to be screwed to the wall requiring some drilling is the main hub and keypad. Everything else uses sticky pads, although if you wish to mount a camera or motion sensor to wood or a wall/ceiling then you have the option to screw the mount in. Summary of pros; -Easy to setup -Complete starter kit and easy to upgrade -App works flawlessly for me -Away from home monitoring with alerts to my watch and phone -So easy to install! -Mostly battery operated, the keypad has the option of being charged or running on a plug. The only item requiring a plug is the hub, everything else is on battery power which lasts months Cons -Maybe a bit pricey without the deals when you add all the extras (you'll want more cameras, door/window sensors, it won't stop with your original purchase) -£8 a month subscription is required for the cameras to record and save any footage. This service has been flawless for me, but it's just another subscription I've now got
