how well does it crush ice?

I own 2 of these and have had them for years. Never once have I had an issue regarding the them breaking down. Once I put too much frozen fruit in it and it stopped, once i unplugged the motor, removed some frozen fruit, I plugged it in, added some milk to the frozen fruit and it worked just fine. Never overfill these machine with too much ice, and remember, you push down on the motor, let up and repeat it that way for about 10 times and then hold it down to do the work. I don't get all the negative reviews, but remember folks, it's a 400 watt motor, not the high end Ninja blender.

I need to make puppy food slush from soaked dry food . How do you think this will work?

I used mine to do this. I ground up the dry puppy food in this and it broke it up great. It had no problem at all. I was so glad I had it. Made the process of making the puppy mush/slush so easy. No damage to the machine in any way.

Whats the difference between the QB900B and the QB1004 that was top pick of Consumers Report?

There may be minor differences such as number and size of prep bowls offered in the package, but the main difference that I see is that the QB1004 has a 450 watt motor, and the QB900 has 400 watts. Also the blades used in the 48 oz container differ - the QB1004 has 6 blades, and they are at an angle. The QB900B has 4 blades and they appear to be horizontal.

Can you make green smoothies with this? And by that I mean how well does it cut spinach and other veggies into a smoothie?

I make green smoothies everyday with spinach, kale, carrots and fruit. It all blends well in under 2 minutes. I do it in bursts to start, then I run it for 15-20 seconds until blended. I haven't tried broccoli.
