BRK 660MBX Optical Smoke Alarm, Mains Powered with 9 V Battery Backup and Push Fit Base

Replaced a 650MBX which had started to give false alarms at all hours of the day and night. Simple swap because the base-plate and wiring was already installed; Take this 660MBX out of the box, connect the battery provided, separate the unit from the base-plate it comes with (if like me you are replacing another 600 series alarm and can use the base-plate thats already in situ), flick the smoke alarm to Off in your fusebox, remove the old alarm and replace with the new one, then flick the fusebox back to On and press the button to test it.A constant green light shows it is receiving power from the mains and an intermittent red flash shows the battery backup is working. Not an electrician or tradesman so didn't want to touch the wiring, but had no problems replacing an existing 650MBX with this 660MBX.

I loved the way it fitted onto the existing mount (it was a direct replacement of a similar unit), after testing all seems to be working ok,I only hope I never need to be alerted to smoke or fire. Great value.

BRK 660MBX Optical Smoke Alarm it's easy to install. Mains Powered with 9 V Battery Backup and Push Fit Base . It should be in every house a smoke alarm. For the safety and time to time needs new battery otherwise it's annoying alarming in different time with no reason , but once it's new battery all good , great value for money

Don’t be put off if you bought this to replace the same model and see that there’s a new slimline base and wiring block. This will clip straight onto the last design of the same model number, thankfully!

Pleased with item as false alarms have stopped after changing for old units. Big plug on Rear of unit means you need to make a hole in the ceiling to accommodate the plug and wiring connector

Once you work battery back up inside and you will need to unclip to replace battery in the future everything connected and fitted up easily

Smoke alarms normally have a 10 year life, after which they should be replaced, as the sensor can become impaired by dirt or by reduction in the radioactive material, in the case of ionisation type detectors (note, this BRK 660MBX is Optical).Unfortunately, I was sent old stock, and I'm not the only one, judging by some of the other reviews. My photos show the smoke alarm I received was manufactured in August 2018, and states "date of replacement 31 Aug 2028", meaning two years of life has already gone (20% of the value).I bought this particular make/model, as it is a straight swap for the old smoke alarm and was supposed to make my life easier, as it was for a rental property. Being optical, it may still have 10 years life left from when it was first opened and put to use, however, from a regulation point of view, it may raise questions if it is used past the stated replacement date, so I'll have to bin it after eight years.A minor point to some, but I am not impressed, and it is not worth me sending it back, because I imagine the entire stock is of a similar age.

I easily replaced my existing battery operated smoke alarm for this mains power one. The instructions were easy to follow. A mains battery pack is a key safety issue and avoids that irritating bleep to change the battery that invariably goes off in the middle of the night.Green light shows that power is being received from the mains and on top of this an intermittent flashing red light indicates the battery backup is working correctly - perfect. A powerful alarm that is loud enough to warn even the hard of hearing.A quality smoke alarm that is well worth the money.
