Carl's Birthday

My go to for baby shower gift. Alexandra Day’s artwork is a joy for mom and baby or child of all ages. Having it in board book form means no worries about torn pages.

Kids love this book

If you haven't discovered the "Carl the Rottweiler" children's books yet, you have to buy at least 1 or 2 and you will be hooked. There are wonderful illustrations and you can embellish the stories as you look at the pictures. Carl is a great big, gentle babysitter to Madeline. They go on adventures together to daycare, to the park, get ready for birthdays and Christmas. This series beautifully shows the gentle side of a dog breed normally considered ferocious. Not true! They make wonderful pets. It's the owner that makes them mean. Spend some time reading with your toddler and introduce 'Carl' to their hearts and imagination.

I love the Carl stories for many reasons. To begin with the pictures are so endearing; so full of love and tenderness shown by Carl toward the baby. The events attended by the two are full of fun and festivity and the situations are very creative and funny. The Carl stories are also an amazing learning tool for a developing child. The very youngest can be told the story page by page and gradually be encouraged to tell the story in the same way themselves, feeling they are already reading like a big person. It encourages a love for books and reading at an early age.

This one is a cute and lovely addition to the story. Not sure my 18 month old is always sure what is happening (for example, Carl and Maddie try the punch for the party and add more sugar. Its a joke he's not ready for yet), but it is the kind of book that grows with a child and always has new details for them to discover. Plus, these books are some of the most beautifully illustrated picture books.

Our sons grew up on "Carl" books. I loved them because they have very few words (just first and last pages, to set the stage then conclude). Between those pages, WE get to "tell the story" based on pictures. Fosters imagination and interaction. Purchased for a little man in our extended family who is turning 1.

A lovely book series with no words! Beautiful pictures allow a child or parent to tell their own story. It can be different every time. It spark creativity in children and adults.

My children loved the Carl books, so I purchased some for my niece's little girl. She and her child love them, but pointed out that Carl's birthday had two pages printed upside down. Wondering if the publisher knows and will correct in future editions? I told her maybe it will be a collector's edition. She didn't seems too upset about it.

Carl & Madeline are a hoot together outsmarting adults and having fun. My 2.6 year old loves these as they contain few words, are big board style and the photography is excellent. Great plot lines and many funny scenes as with this series.

This book is wonderful. We have enjoyed the Carl books with our children. The pictures tell the story with little to no words in print. "Reading" the book together involves creating a story with the beautiful and engaging illustrations that tell more than words! We come back to it again and again. Its a nicely sized board book edition.

Very nice book for my granddaughters, who have the same breed of dog. We just sub their dogs name when reading the story! Nice quality well written and great illustrations!
