The Heavyweight Champion Of My Collection
This pen is hefty. I haven't weighted it or anything, but it feels like holding a half a pound of metal. That's the bad part of the weight. The good part of the weight is that it's bottom heavy. If it were concentrated in the top of the pen, it would be harder to write with, but it's on the bottom. So the first one of these I got had a quality issue. The ink was dripping out between the seams in the top of the nib. So I returned it. Amazon was great about getting me a replacement very quickly. Now for the fun stuff. 1) The cap has a built-in fidget! That plastic marble is secure, but it spins so freely that you'll get hours of enjoyment out of it! If you have ADHD like I do, having a fidget built in to your pen is a dream come true. 2) The cap posts in the most interesting way. It screws onto the back end. You can fidget without the cap even budging! It's awesome. I have over four dozen pens, and the dragon king is the only one I have that screws onto the back end. 3) Even with a fine nib, it's a smooth writer. It lays down a nice line. If you turn the nib 45 degrees to the right when you're writing with it, you get beautifully varying line thicknesses. 4) The grip is nice and comfortable. It's not a pain to write with in that aspect at all. 5) If you lean it up more toward vertical, the nib is still smooth. 6) The pen displays nicely on a stand. In summary, the only con about this pen is the weight, and even that is concentrated toward the bottom. The pen is fun and beautiful, and a pleasure to write with. There is a built in spinner for hours of enjoyment. It's a great pen.

This is expensive pen quality for modest price.
I own and use many Jinhao fountain pens so I wasn't surprised that this one is also extremely high quality and exceptional writing "functionality", for a modest price. It actually performs at least as well as pens that cost a LOT more. I expected all of this from the other such pens I have bought and use, which is the main reason I specifically purchased this one--I am not disappointed. I confess that I love their "dragon"-themed pens, which is why I purchased this one, and intend to add the same pen in a rollerball for a matched set. Beyond the necessary working performance of the pen, I love the "feel" of this one in hand: the heavy, ornate grey dragon on a black background sculpted around the entire length of the barrel lends a weight that adds to its overall feeling of richness and craftsmanship. The theme of "Dragon Playing With Pearl" is elaborated with an emerald-colored "pearl" clutched in the dragon's claw atop the lacquer-black cap, matched by the black end-cap. The whole pen is accented by gold fittings. Instead of coming off as gauche and over-decorated, the overall look comes together like a beautiful, traditional Chinese dragon sculpture with style and function married elegantly. When properly prepared and filled with a quality ink, the 0.5mm 18KGP nib writes smoothly without skipping, and does not dry out during use. Another reason I love these pens is that the nibs do not dry out between uses, as long as the user keeps the ornate cap screwed on as designed. In some pens the 0.5mm is a definite, thin "fine" width, but this one is between fine and medium, drawing a smooth, elegant line that pleases me very much without overpowering the written strokes. As with the other Jinhao "dragon carvings" pens, it does not come with a pocket clip--the weight of these pens does not allow for carrying them clipped in a pocket that way. If the user does want to carry them, a good pen pouch works well. This one comes with a soft drawstring-closure "pouch". For desktop use (my preference), there are many nice pen "boxes" or decorative cases available. This is an extremely nice fountain pen that performs on par with and better than many that are much more expensive--it looks and feels like it should cost much, much more. Its performance is equalled by its beauty. I highly recommend it to others who love great fountain pens, and it is a great buy for the price.

I like this thing, just wish marble wasn't rattling.
The refillable tank that it uses works pretty well, the nib can clog a bit between uses but it works fairly well when it's flowing nicely. I really like the look of it and it isn't too uncomfortable to use with it's strange body shape. The only 2 things that bug me is 1: The marble is not set, it's floating in the end so it rattles when writing which can get annoying. 2: This is costs quite a bit of money for the quality of materials used. I like it though, it's not too shabby.

This is a very cool pen, but it is very heavy
I love this pen. The intricate detail is well done and the red "crystal" on the top looks very cool. I love that the cap is a screw on/off over the nib end...and...it also screws on and off the other end while writing. The ink converter works well and holds a nice amount of ink. The nib is fine and smooth...not as smooth as some but just fine for my writing style. If you don't use it for a day or two the nib dries out if you store it in the "nib up" position. The only possible drawback is the weight of the pen. Due to the materials used to craft the intricate pattern it is very heavy and takes some getting used to. For me, it's not a big issue because I just love the look of the pen. If you want a really cool pen for an affordable price, this is for you!

Well made
I haven’t inked the pen yet but it appears to be in excellent condition and I’ve been happy with this brand in the past.

The pen is... meh
The pen is great when it writes well, which is around about half the time. Other times you get thick messy lines. The converter thing works pretty well though. You're buying the pen for the dragon design and it does look good. The ball on top free spins in its socket. If you are looking for a better pen from the standpoint of reliability in writing for the same price point I would suggest a Wordsworth and Black. I have bought several cheapish fountain pens and that is the one I have had the best overall luck with.

I really love my new Jinhao dragon fountain pen! It's definitely eye catching and very unique with it's lovely chatoyant marble crown. I enjoy the substantial weight and girth of this pen in my hand - and I find it very comfortable to write with despite it's weight... even being a small woman with small hands. It posts very securely and is well balanced even when posted. It exclaims opulence with it's gold moldings and the dragon cleverly looks right up at you with it's little ruby eyes when you're writing. It works well with cartridges and the converter that is provided with it. The nib is indeed a fine size and it writes smoothly and reliably like all Jinhao pens I have purchased thus far. If there would be one thing I would improve it would be the size of the ruby eyes on the dragon - they're pretty small. This could be better highlighted with rubies a little bigger than what they are now. All in all it's a wonderful pen that I would definitely buy again. Keep up the good work Jinhao! :)

Definitivamente esta pluma es una joyita que hay que saber apreciar y sobre todo usar si la compraste con la punta doblada para caligrafía más gruesa. Mi consejo es que le compres una buena tinta oscura para que la disfrutes en su máximo esplendor.
